hey guys looking to find out whats the best t5 lighting i could get for my 40 breeder. not looking to buy right now just looking for ideas.

that depends on how much you want to spend and what your keeping.. imo and many others ati is the one for high quality.. if you don't want to spend the coin id then go 6 bulb retro...or get 2 of the reefbreeders leds at 190 bucks a pop... 400 bucks and your all set

sorry i supposed i should have specified what i am keeping in there. som lps sps and zoas same as what i had in my bio cube a while back nothing super fancy. and im not really sure what i want to spend money on. i dont think i will want to buy new it will probably be used but im wondering what i should be looking out for and yes i think i want a 6 bulb

Look into CoralVue 6 bulb T5 assembly. Comes shipped with legs (allowing 360 deg. turning) as well as wire kit for mounting/hanging. Added bonus is 7 blue CREE LEDS to help accentuate your corals. Only 2 bulbs per cord (good lighting control) and unlike their first years offering of this assembly, they also have fans. I think they are an extremely good buy for the $$ and they do go for a decently low price used as well. Brand new I believe they run around $275 plus shipping.

If you do an canopy, Tek retro from BRS, Need to figure away to hang it, And mount it to a assembly. Look at LI's (clownnuts) build. He had a nice way of mounting the lights.

I've got a 6x bulb TEK T5 that I'm going to be looking to get rid of once my LEDs come in. PM me if you want some more details

I vote for ATI too. That 4 bulb will blow away all cheaper 6 bulbs in light output. Good fit for a 40breeder. Less bulbs to change save bulb cost and replacement. Also high resale.

Ati for me too. I like the 6 bulb option for more bulb configuration. But the 4 should do just fine.

dont think i am going to do a canopy just for the fact that i will be doing just screen tops

thanks for the information everyone i am just browsing around not doing any buying just yet unless its an unbeatable deal that i can not pass up but saving up to get the best options for this as it will be my show tank until i am able to get a bigger tank set up.

Every once in a while Reef Geek has some scratch n dent Ati fixtures at a discount, you could give them a call.

I talk to reef geek and they have a 6 bulb 48 inch for 40 percent off

Only problem with that is he needs a light for a 40br which is only 36inches long. I too would recommend ati and buying from reefgeek. Sometimes you can get it with bulbs included for a decent price.

so what makes for a good t5 system? i understand the wattage is a factor but if you put the same bulbs in two different fixtures what is it that makes one better than the other
