My new, long....slow......build (1 Viewer)

Why would it be a PITA? Zero out the hollow space under it and install the auto feeder there = clamped on or something to the front lid and BAM! - Every time I lift the lid - feeder goes with - know what I mean?

Flakes, right? Rolling over in the feeder, constantly grinding themselves into smaller pieces, getting out of position for the feeder? I don't know, I don't deal with auto feeders, but I would have thought I wouldn't want it rolling around like that. Also, any thing a person clamps, the more times you jostle it around, the looser it gets is all I was thinking. Also, if you've run an airline and it doesn't go through that front lid, everytime you open that thing, it will pull the airline out or you will have to refeed it through whatever path you have routed it.

Basically, I'd prefer it in a more stationary location.

Long slow update........

After all the research - I just finally decided to go with having Jimmy do the LED retro - he knows more, has done his research and I trust him. I DO NOT trust myself with the decisions on what to get etc......

So I have commissioned Jimmy to install a 50 watt led - a comparable light is the ecoxotic 50 watt cannon, except he is using a hybrid led which is half white and half blue diodes.

Once installed I will need to re-evaluate the space under the hood for what to do regarding the auto feeder installation

As far as the current little tank I have running - with just 2 baby clowns and a hermit in the tank - AND considering I am feeding 3 times a day I am getting a lot of detritus settling on the glass bottom. Been doing water changes and siphoning the bottom but decided to try to add some sort of LS to help.

At the root beer float get together at DA this week - both Jay and Petco Jason recommended a banded starfish.....brought him home and he is HUGE!!!

He will be good in the 34 once I get it up and running - I just hope he can help out with the lil tank until then without getting cramped - know what I mean?

Still working on the auto feeder installation issue - will need to re-evaluate the space available under the hood once the LED is installed

Have you ever seen the DreamChip LED 100w 5 channel chips? I have been thinking if I did go the LED route to try to build one with this to see how well it worked. It seems to be a very nice led which would allow you to set your color spectrum the way you would like out of one chip. These LED's were designed by some people on RC.

Update!

Custom LED hood should be done this week.

Getting the flooring in this week

Note - I kept the GSP, pulsing Xenia and Mojano's in my lil 12g tank all this time so I could throw em in my RSM once up - at this time - the Mojano's have proven that they will take over anything.

I have a very small 2x4" chunk of GSP growing on the tank wall - other than that the Mojano's have taken over everything else

Since my last update I have also picked up a sump that was designed specifically for an RSM and stand - WOOT!

Is this going to be a Mojano dominant tank? Just going to let them grow wild and say screw it to whatever else is trying to grow?

Cant start the build until the floor is done : (

They came last Monday for measurements - then Friday told us our floor was too uneven and dipping in places to install it.
After looking at options we are now going with - Allure Plank flooring - materials will be here Thursday but since we are heading up north this weekend, and then my little sisters wedding the next weekend - prolly wont get it done until 3 weekends from now : (

Still moving - but like I noted - Long, SLOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW build

As stated may times before....nothing good happens quickly in this hobby!;) Can't wait to see it all come together!

Your floors were ripped out at your meeting in January. What type of contractor did you hire for this job?!

Booooo!!!! ;)

Agreed - but I guess I should note that the build has actually been going on since I picked up the tank:

Custom LED's installed in hood with controller
Sump built specifically for this tank/stand acquired
Overflow/return built specifically for this tank acquired

So even though I have to wait for the floor to get done before it gets wet - the long and slow build has actually progressed

FWIW - I came really close to trading the RSM in for a GORGEOUS 75g last week - just couldn't come to terms on the trade/pricing

The loft was installed by original contractors 10 years ago. They were a mass market producer that was building town homes in our association. Appears they built the loft flooring to be perfect for carpeting but nothing else.

We had hired Home Depot to install the hardwood - it was their contractor who declined the install due to the sub floor.

Since this will become a rental property in 2015, it's not worth the $$ to us to repair the sub floor in order to install the hardwood or laminate flooring.

From here - we will be installing the plank flooring ourselves.

Excellent quote - however I have found - the more time you sit on a tank build - the more money you spend on all the extra's you can add/upgrade while it is still sitting there dry

Those floors must be really bad to not be able to install a laminate. Good luck with the allure. It's nice and easy to work with. And holds up well. Used it in a basement where dogs are all over it. And not even a scratch. Now hurry up with this tank. There are some in here that might not live long enough to see this build. :)
