The 280 is finally going to get set up.. (1 Viewer)

Yeah, I agree Manish but the PLC software is really the star of the hardware platform and I think a bit more capable than Arduino. I think Arduino will have to do for me though.... Hey, can I come too? If it's this weekend of course! I have to meet up with Manish too.

lol the meeting after the meeting? you bet Cliff. Let me check with the wife and see when we'll be home. I know we're taking the kids on a bike ride Saturday but we should be free after that.

No new pics of the tank. It is just growing in, not much to report.

Friday I leave for Australia for at least two weeks. We have had a couple of power outages recently so I have been worried something is going to go wrong while we're gone. I have my oldest watching things but if I lose power there is not much she can do.

So for peace of mind I installed one of these. It runs on NG so it is has a virtually unlimited fuel supply and it is constantly monitoring incoming power. If we lose power 10 seconds later it turns on and powers up the house (and my aquarium :) )

8 KW it will run everything plus keep the furnace, fridge and a few lights on.

Also Marty I am so sorry I missed the tank move. But no way with everyone coming over Saturday I could swing it and still be married.

You spent all that time and money to go diving in a concrete jungle? Bah..
U should instead try the great barrier reef!

Ps- just saw that generac thingy, awesome power!

these are not fish pictures :)

Kids coming over for Christmas tomorrow, thought I better at least clean the glass. I don't view the tank from this angle often enough looking down the length of the tank. It looks pretty nice I think. Taken from the cell phone :( I need a new camera for Christmas lol Or maybe I can get Ben over more often :)

Nice pictures. Try shooting in RAW and adjusting color and white balance in a program like Photoshop or Lightroom. You will be able to hone in on the true colors of the coral.

You don't need to shoot in RAW to get a nice pictures. Try to play with your camera a little more before you going to RAW shooting and lightroom. Turn on your light ON ( try to take pic in the afternoon work best ), all pumps and powerheads OFF, using tripod is recommended. Adjust your K setting to 10,000. Depend on DOF, you can adjust them to your desires. Play with ISO til the corals look like how your eyes see. That's how I took my pictures, hope it work for you too. Just my 0.02cents.

Thanks for the advice guys. still swamped at work so not a lot of time to play with the camera yet. a friend of mine gave me a coupon for some classes at camera exchange I will try to fit into the schedule when things slow down a bit.

I did play around some more tonight and chased my orange spotted filefish around and managed to get a few shots. I have had this guy since last July, he was in my seahorse tank until about a month ago when I decided to downsize by one tank and gave the seahorses to one of the local reefers to care for. My OSFF is in the same tank but with new tankmates and I was pretty nervous about how he would fair with actual competition for food.

His tank now houses a pair of black ice clown fish, a coral beauty and a flame fin tang. The new additions do not seem to bother him at all. he still eats pretty much anything I put in the tank.

It was not like that in the beginning though. he was a real tough sale on anything not brine shrimp. No matter what I put in the tank he would ignore it. So he was fed fortified brine shrimp soaked in selco, zoe, and garlic extract for months. But since this was my seahorse tank I added mysis shrimp in with the brine. The seahorses did not mind they would eat both. You could see my Orange spotted pick through the food and if he accidentally ate mysis he would spit it out and move on to the next piece of brine. That went on for a few months until he finally figured out the mysis was food too. Now there is nothing he won't eat. including formula 1 and 2 flake food.

Not much for coral in the tank a 92 cube. just a hammer a frogspawn and some GSP. I will probably make it a softy tank eventually. I did recently put a sacrificial frag of digitatas in the tank figuring he might ignore it. HE had it striped to the bone in about an hour. So he has not forgotten what his favorite food is lol.. But any how here is my chubby dude. You can see I have a long ways to go to figuring out this camera thing.

One thing that might help on clarity is to put the camera in A (aperture) mode and set the F-stop a little higher. It looks like the DOF is a little low in the macro shots. You may also need to up the ISO a bit if that makes your shutter speed to slow.

For color it will also help to play with your LEDs and set them more toward white while taking pictures. The high level of blue in LEDs really goofs up the camera. Normally I have my white and blue even, but I turn the blue way down when taking photos. On the camera you should have a WB setting that mentions temperature. Set that to as high as it goes, and if it also has a green filter, turn that on too. Of course as others have said you can also shoot RAW and mess with the WB after the fact.
