Now that my tank is 6 months old, I think it's time it has a thread. I have a build thread on Reef2Reef that has some of the early story and photos, but this will be my primary thread.

Tank: ELOS Pool 160 (145 Gallons)
Lighting: EcoTech Radion G3 (3)
Flow: EcoTech Vortech MP40W QD (2)
Return: Reef Octopus RODC 3500 DC
Skimmer: ELOS PS2000 with Reef Octopus RODC 3500S DC
Filtration: Reef Dynamics BPR135 Biopellet Reactor
Goal: SPS-Dominated Mixed Reef

I like to keep things simple, so this first post will just show progression shots over time.

How has your favia spp. responded to being mounted in the shaded locations?
I have plenty of available shaded locations in my tank that could use some colorful corals.

They've responded really well– especially the dragon soul, which seems to get enough indirect light from what bounces off the sand. The X-Mas Favia has been shaded for three months or so and continues to retain color and grow.
 
I added a young Powder Blue to the system a couple weeks ago. I've had terrible luck with this species but I saw one on Diver's Den and getting a healthy fish has made all the difference. I had installed mirrors when I added the Powder Blue to distract the established Yellow Tang, but had to take them down immediately because the Powder Blue was attacking the glass within minutes. After seeing this, I knew he wouldn't have a problem standing up for himself.

The Yellow Tang is still the dominant fish, and I hope it stays that way. I've heard Powder Blues can get aggressive as they get older.

My Green Slimer decided to veer off and head straight for its neighbor. I'm watching it grow closer every day. If I were to frag this back before the bend, would it just repeat this weird growth decision? I've never fragged an Acropora colony.

Do you adjust the levels on the LEDs to give you a better color for taking pics? Or what's your trick?

If my kids were to see your Powder Blue Tang, they would be begging me to get one.
Hopefully you have better success with this young one. I have always had great luck with fish from the Diver's Den. In fact, I think my only losses from them have been due to two gobies jumping out.

I don't adjust the LED colors before shooting, but I run a pretty cool spectrum and the shots come out with a strong blue cast. I shoot in RAW and shift the color temperature to the warmer side in post to bring back some of the reds, oranges, and yellows. I've found that the whites have to be at a certain level for this to work; if they're too low, those colors just aren't in the image to recover.

Thanks! No full tank shot since the one from August, but I have a full room shot I took for Ecotech Marine's Facebook photo contest from a few days ago. Note that the coffee table is typically full of dosing bottles, food, and fragging tools.

 
I picked up this great piece of Baby's Breath Favia from Brian (AsianReef) this morning. I've had my eye on these for awhile, but frags are always tiny. He cut me a nice 30+ polyp frag.

30+ head of baby breath.. Wow.. That's nice! How did you found Brian? Is it on 1 stop corals website or his house?
