Chris' Elos 160 (1 Viewer)

I think it's time to go under the stand! The Elos 160 cabinet is partitioned down the center and the sump only takes up one side, which leaves half of the area open. I decided to try to keep this side dry and isolate electronics here to the extent that it was possible, and use some of the room for storage of frequently used items; test kits, medications, dry food, etc. I built a little custom shelf system to accommodate the equipment that I had. I added some places to mount the Vortech controllers and the Neptune Display Module which also somewhat conceal the wiring mess as the whole system gets power from one EB8 in that section.

We lost power twice this past summer, so both Vortechs are on battery backup. There's also a wireless bridge for the controller as I've been tinkering a little with the Apex Fusion Beta this week. Will grab some pics of the sump side this weekend–

That shelf looks original. Good job on it. Is it just a glossy paint? Or what is the material?

Thanks! Just everyday Home Depot lumber with some glossy white. This is the first thing I've built out of wood in like 10 years; it took a little longer than it should but I'm glad I spent the time to do it myself.

 Great job on that shelving unit!

What are you using for filtration in the QT

I have a pile of Marine Pure ceramic balls in the sump of the main system that I just move to quarantine when I get set up. Even still, I'll probably end up water changing every day for awhile while I try to get everyone eating.

Get some ammo stop, or ammonia block, whatever it is called. I have pulled floss and balls from my systems for QT and never had success of any kind in QT until I started using ammo stop. I was told it does not remove the ammonia, as it still shows up on a test kit, it just removes its toxicity to fish. Especially since I expect you will be feeding that QT tank heavily.

Good luck, looking good per usual.

What do you plan to feed the anthias? I have 4 Nemanthias carberryi and they looked like that when I got them....awesome colors, but have faded to a really light pink/pale. (I feed often, and have tried pellets, mysis, rods, anything really.)

Thanks. I'll make daily additions of Prime as well just to be safe.

I remember you mentioning this when I saw your tank. My current food list for the tank is Rod's Fish Eggs, Nutramar Ova, BRS Reef Chili, Cyclop-eez, Mysis (in Selcon), and the mixed food from the workshop earlier this year. I hope I'm able to keep most of their color. I know yours aren't where you want them yet, but have there been any foods in particular that seemed to help?

If they don't keep their color with a food line up like that, then I doubt anything will do the job.

My lyretail trio really like the meaty portions from Rod's Original Blend.
All three of them are very robust and have incredible coloration.
Yesterday I dumped in a bit too much and the male ended up eating too much that he ended up spitting out the last couple of mouthfuls. Glutton.

The tangs and the rest of the fish will consume the algae based portions from Rod's food.

Nice collection of anthias you have threre. I did mention before about this is the "new anthias heaven" thread.

My leopard wrasse is a pig like that. Except he doesn't spit anything. I have tested how much it will eat and had to stop when its belly looked like it swallowed a marble. I swear the thing would eat itself to death if it had the chance. lol

Here's the sump side. Because the tank is on the main floor of the house, I prefer to have all of the plumbing live inside the sump in case something goes wrong. I made everything fit, but it's made me envious of the large sumps in other builds.

The overflow water comes down on the right where it's heated and pulled into the skimmer. Skimmer output runs through a single filter sock and then rises through two chambers that contain some ceramic balls, chaeto, and media bags with carbon or GFO as needed. Water then flows back into the main compartment, most of which gets returned. A small fraction of it goes through the biopellet reactor which ends up getting skimmed again.

Kinda what I thought. You really had to plan that all out to fit in that breeder tank.....
Way to go!
