LowersMyBP's Latest Tank (1 Viewer)

Ya that doesn't look very big, what is that 2' across? You have lots of room for more tanks.

Your wall is already blue, no need to paint the back either :p

I dropped off my stand specs. I am ordering some engineered aluminum pieces similar to 8020 to build the stand. Since the room door is only 31 inches, that would have been the limit to my stand height. With this engineered aluminum business, I will be going to 38.5. I am building it out of 1.5 inch material.

I also picked up a 3/8" thick piece of gray PVC to put on the bottom of the tank as I am going bare bottom. Picked it up same day from Plastics International in Eden Prairie.

I also got the 3/4" plywood for under the 300 and under the 180 cut out on the table saw today.

After that, I played with some pukani. Along with the structures I had purchased in the past, a good friend connected me with some additional pieces.

I had good experience using Marco mortar and pinning the rock. I'm sure one could use any mortar but you know how that goes

Everyone has different tastes and opinions, I prefer not to use any mortar, superglue, or expoxy on joints. Just the rods, I like the ability to still remove any rock ( especially if hard to reach ), nuke an aptasia or whatever and easily rebuild it the way it was. The rods make it easy to put piece it back together, stable but still removable.

You guys are overlooking the best part of his post.
He went Plastics International!
I always like going there. It means I've got projects to work on.

Did you buy it all cut to length or are you doing some cutting yourself?

All cut to length. Very consistent and no sharp edges from saw blades etc. Time will tell as to how well I did the measuring...

Do you mind saying my what you paid for the stand materials? Ive been interested in the t-slot aluminum for a while but it just seems really expensive.

With light holders etc, you should expect to pay anywhere from $900-1200 for a stand for a 6 foot tank. I ordered mine through the maintenance company Li from SWE runs. I really don't know all of the companies out there that provide this and whether or not he can order wholesale vs what I can order, but he helped me plan it and ordered it for me, so any markup was worth it.

I have it built, plywood in place, styrofoam in place. I have 3-4 guys coming tomorrow night to put it on the stand...we will see how level it ends up with weight on it...

Tank is painted, aquascape is mostly done. I have to cut the corners out for the overflows out of the plastic that I am using to line the bottom still. Put in bulkheads and some capped plumbing and I can start filling it with water this weekend maybe and start the cycle..

Not sure what's in the room but I've always thought it'd be nice to be able to get to 3 of the 4 sided on a tank. E.gl move it to the left 2'

First, my flame angels spawned in the 180. I am hoping that keeps up once they are moved. Had I known better, I would have sucked the eggs up and taken them to Vossen at the swap, but I was not fully up to speed on things.

It looked like the milky way or something.

300 bacteria seeding and cycle is 8 days into the 22 day schedule someone put me on. Hopefully, testing bears out that it will remain on schedule. Plan is to transfer things into the 300 the first weekend in December. I was told we are having Christmas at our place this year...and I currently have 5 big tanks/stands on the ground, I need to get down to 2 by Christmas time. I have yet to hook up the temporary sump/plumbing, I have a lot going on here...I just slapped a reefbrite over it for the picture, otherwise, it is not getting lit currently.

Since I need to be done by Christmas, there will be no time to bleach/nuke the rocks currently in the 180 and rebuild with those, so I bought new rocks. They are on day 2 of their '22 day plan'....That 180 will be moved and set up by 12/20 or the wife will kill me.

Might want to use LaCl3 on the new rock to get the phosphates out... I had mine cycling for a few months and I still had major issues...

+1 on the LaCl when curing rock

I just dump it in and rinse the rock off once done.

Yea, I never really believed the whole "BRS dry rock is all full of phosphate your children's poop will smell worse" deal until I saw it for myself. I dropped a big old piece in and the phosphate went el'nut'o.

Just dump in a few gulps of lacl3 and swish when done.

Yeah, phosphates were .48 - .60 give or take with 200 gallons in the tank. 50% water change got me down to .33 last test. Going to be turning on a temporary sump tonight or tomorrow, which will entail adding another 100 or so gallons (so works out to a 33% reduction in nutrients, no?) . I will either dump lacl3 down the overflow into a 10 micron sock a few times, or turn on the GFO. Livestock transfer begins on Friday/Saturday.
