LowersMyBP's Latest Tank (1 Viewer)

Jen at new wave hooked me up with the idol. She had it at least a month, I think. I put in the corals, then the idol. When the lights went out, I put in the rest of the fish. So far, no one is giving it any static. I have seen it eat pellets and mysis so far.

Be careful if that is a true reading of zero. When I was running both pellets in combination with GFO I was stripping out all of the nitrates and phosphates and my corals had thin tissue and were looking pale. Now I only use a small amount of pellets to keep the numbers hovering slightly above zero. I've been GFOless for over a year and have been pretty happy with the results. You can probably stop using them as well, or drop to a very small amount to ween them off.

Oh, I think it is off, I just don't know how much.

Last I tested, I had .12 (I think) in the 300 and about .09 in the 180 with only about 100 gallons in it. Since then, I added over 100 gallons of freshly mixed saltwater. I also have had my Pellets running, the ATS running and my 2 week old canister of GFO running.

If I had to guess, I would have guessed around .10 or so, depending on food added along the way. So, I will run another test tonight.

Call me cautiously optimistic, nonetheless.

James this is looking fantastic.

And yes, your colonies look tiny in your new 300. hahaha

James! I'm looking into the 1080 frames for my next tank for awhile now. Good to see you have it under your 300. Are they steady and can hold that much weight? Will they loosen up overtime if you have too much wave in the DT tank (I heard they said using wave maker can shift your tank a little)?

All good questions!

Unfortunately, I don't have the answers to all of them.

As far as stability, the stand itself is nice and strong. Because of the height of the stand vs the width of the tank (I made the stand pretty tall, taller than the tank is wide), I had some instability in that it could rock as it was top heavy. I ended up needing to brace the stand to the wall to make it stable, that cleared all of that right up. Once I connected the two stands to each other, that added even more stability.

Will the joints loosen up over time with a strong wavemaker in the tank? I am unable to say. These nuts lock down pretty tight when you turn them, but anything is possible. I can tell you that it is on my mind and I look at the ones I can get to. Some of them are buried under the plywood on the bottom of the stand, so I can't see them, but I will be monitoring the ones I can see regularly.

The material itself is as strong a material as I have ever seen. I don't think it will buckle or bend under the weight of the tanks.,

So far, so good.

It is pretty impressive looking and it is nice that I can take it down and move it to another location without destroying it. I would have otherwise been unable to get a stand this tall in the room as the door is only 31 inches wide. I would have had to build a wood stand in place or had a steel stand constructed in two pieces that fit together.

I know there are a few companies out there touting this as a solution for aquarium stands and the 120 Gallon harem tank at BRS is on a stand made out of this type of material as well. So, it has been done before.... I am very happy with it.

Looking really good! Makes me want to go work in my basement to get closer to getting the big tank up and running

I have been watching my nitrates and phosphates. Through the week, I swore they were going down. I have been heavy feeding, trying to fatten up a moorish idol, so I was surprised. Tonight, I cleaned the scrubber again, and I think I figured it out.

Last week (12/20) I cleaned the screen and got this:

Tonight (12/27) I cleaned it and got this:

Moving in the right direction!

So far, so good. No casualties to speak of. I have to move my dendros into better spots so they get more food. I have to work out my water change plumbing still, but things are looking pretty good.

James is this from the scrubber I built?

Yes, it is the one I had you build me . It was too difficult to use under my old cabinet. Now, with the higher stand, it is a snap. I must have had it in storage a year and a half or so.
If this keeps up, I might be able to ditch GFO.

I currently have pellets and skimmer going, the scrubber, and my gfo is almost a month old. I am about to either change it out or just take it offline.

I also plan to take some water into SWE to verify my readings soon.

That's awesome that your getting such a great yield, and use of the scrubber again.

I think getting a second reading is a very good idea. I always question my test results. Especially when your eyes tell you something else.

Display looks great,

I am just micromanaging levels during the transition so it doesn't get away from me.
