I feel like i have battled this algae in my tanks over the years. I'm running GFO/Carbon in a bag and that doesn't really seem to help.

Any other suggestions?

I have an MP10w es and koralia nano in the biocube for flow.

How often do you turkey baste the rocks to remove dislodge all the detritus and debris ? I'd do at least least prior to water change and ideally several times a week. Whats the nitrate levels at ? Lastly add more grazers like an urchin ( if glass tank, not safe with arcylic ), mexican turbos, tangs ( if tank is large enough to support ).

I baste before i do a WC but that is it (i will start doing it during the week), this is a 29g Biocube retrofit with LEDs no protein skimmer.

would an urchin be safe inside that? what kind would you recomend. I will check my nitrate's today and see what they are at.
No tangs inside of this tank, don't want the tang police after me....

Are you using RO water? I always battled algae, then started using RO and it was gone.

I would start by manually removing as much as possible. A lot of that looks like it could be pulled off in clumps. Adding some grazers to help clean up the rest. If some of the rocks are easy to take out I've had great luck with hydrogen peroxide dips. Safe on zoas but not sure on other corals. Also a lights out period may help or reducing your light time until it clears up.

I'm using RO water, i have started to manually pull it out with each water change, takes more time but is looking better.

I will have to look into the hydrogen peroxide dip. prefer not to use chemicals, i'll have to get some more grazers.

i believe for all of those products you need a skimmer correct? I'm not running one on my biocube so i'm guessing that would be an issue?

Do you test the phosphates to know when your gfo is exhausted or just making assumptions ? Perhaps your not changing out the gfo often enough or not using enough per change.

With the amount of algae present, I bet it's getting exhausted within the first few days and then starts to creep back up before you change again. Best is to test the water but initially change it out more often to get caught up then can go back to a small amount to maintain.
