Chris' Elos 160 (1 Viewer)

Out of curiosity, where did you place your Radion XR30 power supply? I have two of mine just sitting on the floor next to my tank but would like to hang them up.

Just sitting on the floor. They do mount well, but I don't see a point unless they're in the way. As long as I don't have to look at them I'm happy.

Getting reacquainted with the macro lens, starting with inverts. A couple more angles of the plate coral. My camera sensor is way too dirty to be shooting at f/18.

Just so you know ever since seeing this and watching it over the last 2+ years it inspired me to get an ELOS tank although smaller (70) and model it after yours. So my build thread will be what not to do and i'll refer them back to this thread for the correct way!

I saw your build thread and I'm excited to follow along. :) If you need any help figuring out what not to do I have a good deal of experience with that, too.

you really make me wanna pickup one of those 100L, killer pictures as usual!

I was wondering if you can take a look at the transformer on the battery backup to see what color light is on it. My vortech pumps are green but the battery is red. I'm not sure if that is normal so if you're able to that'll be great.

I've got a green light, the model number listed on it is EAC145160 (in case yours is different)

It is red when/if the battery is charging. It turns green when it is done charging. If the light never turns green, your battery is likely hot and dead. You need to replace the battery. Batteries plus will sell you a battery and you will need a rivet gun to put it back together.

In my opinion, used battery backup aren't worth the gamble. A new battery is gonna run you over half the cost of a new battery backup. I have replaced two or three of these batteries already. If you buy a used battery backup, you are paying for a trickle charger and some connectors. The battery will likely die on you quickly. Particularly if it was stored horizontally or on a cement floor.

Thanks you guys, I appreciate your time!

Oops!

My biopellet reactor flow was closed off for a few days so obviously I lost the colony inside the reactor. My girlfriend could smell the "sulfur" before she opened the door :frown:

My plan is to run about 5 gallons of tank water through the reactor with discharge into a discard bucket, swap out for new pellets, and then return it to normal operation. Any known issues with this plan?

That should work fine. I'm not sure if you need new pellets though, there is (I think) often some hydrogen sulfide in your tank (just not toxic levels), and many bacteria use it.

I wouldn't do this with your tank but I've added water that smelled of hydrogen sulfide to my rotifers before with no ill effects.

PS, I saw a post and just clicked it as fast as I could thinking it was the contest. I was very confused there for a second. (again)

Ya I'd flush as much crap off the surface of the pellets as possible. Throw 1/2 of them away and replace the other half with fresh.

If you think everything is completed toast and you want to replace everything I can give you some pellets to seed but it would only be 1/4 -1/2 cup.

Thanks, the pellets were still pretty nasty after I rinsed so I just replaced them all. After a scrub and acid bath, I can still smell it. Hopefully they'll recolonize quickly but I'll probably be in for some extra water changes until they do.

The reactor is running much better after being cleaned up. Back in business!

Chris' bio-pellet reactor....err...which thread is this? I still get a point damn it.

Hi Chris huge fan I have just set up a 5x2.5x2 h tank based on ur tank design and running your light schedule. Any chance of a updated stock list of your fish? I'm currently compiling my stick together and would like to compare.
Thanks Jon

Hey Jon,

I think my stock list is mostly the same. I did lose a few anthias over time- in particular the smaller ones (Red Saddled, Resplendent). They're very unforgiving if you get busy and don't keep up with feeding. I'm coming up on a year having not added any new fish, so I don't I have anything that isn't on that previous stock list, except maybe my male Mandarin Dragonet.

Stock List:
1- Royal Gramma (Gramma Loreto)
1- Yellow Tang (Zebrasoma flavescens)
1- Powder Blue Tang (Acanthurus leucosternon)
1- Leopard Wrasse, Female (Macropharyngodon meleagris)
1- Golden Rhomboidalis Wrasse, Terminal Male (Cirrhilabrus rhomboidalis)
1- Clownfish, Male (Amphiprion ocellaris)
1- Candy Basslet (Liopropoma carmabi)
1- Lyretail Anthias – Male (Pseudanthias squamipinnis)
2- Lyretail Anthias – Female (Pseudanthias squamipinnis)
1- Bartletts Anthias – Male (Pseudanthias bartlettorum)
1- Bartletts Anthias – Female (Pseudanthias bartlettorum)
2- Carberryi Anthias – Male (Pseudanthias carberryi)
1- Carberryi Anthias – Female (Pseudanthias carberryi)
1- Ignitus Anthias – Male (Pseudanthias ignitus)
1- Ignitus Anthias – Female (Pseudanthias ignitus)
1- Purple Queen Anthias – Female (Pseudanthias tuka)
1- Purple Queen Anthias – Male (Pseudanthias tuka)
1- Resplendent Anthias – Male (Pseudanthias pulcherrimus)
1- Bicolor Anthias – Female (Pseudanthias bicolor)
1- Bimaculatus Anthias – Female (Pseudanthias bimaculatus)
1– Ventralis Anthias – Female (Pseudanthias ventralis)
1– Ventralis Anthias – Male (Pseudanthias ventralis)
1– Mandarin Dragonet – Male (Synchiropus splendidus)

Thanks Chris, any plans to add more Anthias

Always. There are a number of species that I would like to keep, but I think I would need to move the Lyretails out in order to keep them.

The entire complex with P. flavoguttatus, aurulentus, privitera, and smithvanizi I really like but I think they'd be too sensitive to survive within my group over the long term.

Chris, I'm looking at doing some framed prints in my fish room. The shots you take are absolutely stunning. I was wondering if you'd willing to share 2-3 high res shots to send out and have made up. Willing to pay for your work. Thanks PM me if you have any interest.
