Marty's 450g (1 Viewer)

I've spent more time lately than I should have thinking about a total reboot of the 450 into a full reef.
Whoa. I don't recommend this. But, it adds credence to what I have been saying, "when things are stable and going well, we all get bored".

I saw no reason for your assault on nitrates. You are a fish guy. Always will be a fish guy. The reef will frustrate and disappoint. But, we all have to tinker.

There is no reason (in my twisted view of the world), with a tank full of angels and tangs, one can't have a good smattering of monti's/xenia/shrooms/LPS/hydro's and alike. It's either make it into a mixed reef with tons of fish, full blown reef or get into the stupidly expensive fish.

It's ironic my 180g I was able to do this with relative ease and in the 450 I can't even grow coraline algae.

You'd think I'd have more of a plan than I do... :)

I think it's two fold and see what happens. Certainly plan on loading up the 450 with inverts/coral I just wish I have more of a QT method. So I'm setting up a 40g breeder just not sure if it will be a 'frag' tank or more of a sudo reef/frag tank (e.g. I put live rock in it etc.). I'm thinking at this point make it more of a sudo reef and just don't but any corals I don't plan up putting in the 450. With the sudo reef, see if I really like corals or not. I've spent more time lately than I should have thinking about a total reboot of the 450 into a full reef.

Non-reef save fish in the 450 truly are only the butterflies (depending on one's definition of reef safe with angels). I can pull some/all of them, just worried about the aiptashia coming back (have a file fish and copperband butterfly, maybe leave them and just pull the semi and raccoon)

Pseudo - it's not like sumo wrestler putz

No truer words ever said in this hobby for me at this point (other than nothing good happens fast in this hobby). I too have been battling uber high no3 for the last couple months - and while its frustrating beyond belief and has had me considering a reboot of the tank - I do have to say, its a little fun/interesting to have something of a challenge to figure out on my tank.

Guess I should post something of an update for the upcoming meeting.

Fish: Somehow when cleaning my tank this weekend my Borbonius Anthias crooked. Had a pair, one up and disappeared some time ado and the other went belly up. Had for about 2+ years, fun fish. Grew like mad, was like a little bull dog/dump truck. Then the next day the pygmy angels decided it was enough and killed off the larger Flame Angel. I saw he was distressed/nipped up and actually had him in a container but thought it's a 450g tank surly it's big enough some pygmies can work out their differences. Guess not long not until the other one is toast, how the times have changed since it was the Potters getting bullied. Big take away is the fish are bigger than I think they are, biggest flame I've ever seem (as he's being flushed...).

Inverts: Ritteri anemone started walking around after months of being fine. I finally got freaked and pulled him. Clown fish never did host in him and the risk/reward of a non-hosting nem was just too great for me. Got the nem downstairs now trying to sell him. I can't blame the clown fish after all they grew up in a lawyers house, I'd be messed up (more) too.

System: Nitrate reactor is doing it's thing, haven't tested in a while but overall think the unit might be a touch too small. no3 stays at 4-8 in the system and 0 out of the reactor. I've had a note on my desk to call Bill about it for months. Had some major AK challenges primary due to me not paying any attention to anything. Moved the skimmer to a newly created stable water compartment in the sump to drive a little more consistency there.

Started dosing iron, algae has grown more.

Hey Marty!! Clean your glass!!!

I'll be bringing my camera and would like to get some nice pictures to show everyone; especially that beautiful Mimic Tang!

Can't we just google up images of those types of fish and post those? I think that would be much easier.

If we are good boys and girls would you consider showing some of us how to use our new cameras?
I am currently able to take pictures of equal quality with my phone
