It's a group event but nothing says you have to stay in the group if you want to do your own thing.

I for one will be hanging on a few people who donated corals to see which ones (o:

Would love to come but we have a membership to the zoo so we won't need tickets (and I assume will not count towards the 15 people) .

Yeah not so much... thankfully it will only take a handful of people to hit the minimum number.

Would we be able to arrange a behind the Scenes tour of the reef set up I wonder?

Wife and I are also members of the zoo, so unfortunately we do not count either. As for a behind the scenes tour I have done it 2-3 times with different family and its pretty cool. They go over the entire aquatics bit, but not much information on their actual reef display tank. If i remember it was 3 400 watt metal halides and 3 kessils for color and whatnot. Could be wrong though on that last bit.

I haven't been to the zoo in a long time. How big is their reef setup (their live coral setup) and what are its rough dimensions?

I want to say it's a 300 dd tank with a ~20 gallon frag tank next to it with a kessil 360

Hello. This is Christoph Noetzli - I am the aquarist that takes care of the live coral tank at the Minnesota Zoo. I would be more than happy to show you behind the scenes (coral tank and more if you would like) on that day (8/18). If someone would like to contact me - I am at christoph.noetzli@state.mn.us.

To answer a question from above - our tank is 600 gallons (including life support and sumps) and we are running 12 Kessils (6 narrows and 6 wides of the 360) as well as a bunch of LED strips.

I can answer any questions you might have. Thank you.

I have attached a somewhat recent picture of the tank. I hope it works.

Very nice looking tank!

What are the dimensions of the display tank itself?

Now I’m really tempted to attend this event; for at least a little bit.
It’s been years since we’ve visited the zoo, but we’re moving Eric up to Duluth on Monday and I suspect that weekend is going to be quite busy.
Maybe I’ll see if I can get away for a few hours; when it gets too dramatic between mother and son.

Pre ordered tickets are done, just show at the gate like normal for anyone else going.

I was there last week and my rough guess for tank size 8'x3'Wx 30"H? I was going to estimate the tank at 500 gallons.

Is there a time/place we'll be meeting? I'm hoping to come (assuming I get everything back into my DT tonight without issues)
