Just an FYI for any one who hasn't heard of these, I hadn't heard about these until the last month or so.

Total game changer for me. No lugging buckets across the house anymore!!!!

Starts at 14.20 mark here:

Sure... innovation taking jobs away from people. Eh, @Kyle T. ???

I just coil my hose for my rodi after filling the ATO. These do seems a little nicer, but I'm not sure how well it would work for me. I have a corner and a door to get around, so I'd need to manage the hose while it winds. It doesn't seem much different to me than just coiling it as I walk back towards my mixing station.

Have you considered auto water changes for your tank?

What do you switch the hose to?

Im switching it out to 5/8 vinyl

No way to do auto water changes with out going thorough the ceiling and that aint happening

I have to go around 2 corners but all ill do is pull and then walk back with it to the reel with the tension when done. The tension on it is pretty powerful so I dont foresee any snags etc

where did you find the replacement vinyl hose?

Home Depot - free shipping and cheap

Just remember - when you pull the garden hose from it - leave it locked in the un-spooled position. Then its easy peasy - load in the vinyl tubing and unlock it - watch it reel up on its own.

I made the mistake of releasing the tension on it before hand and had to unreel is manually - ugh

Other than that - the fittings are readily available to switch it out and piece of cake

This thing is awesome y'all!

Frick that's nice!

Are you adding a ball valve above the pump to control back siphon or generally controlling the water in the pipe?

Soooo, whats the plan for all the water left in the tube while it's rolling back in and for storage?

Will be adding a shut off just short of the end - along with the cool Python hook adapter to hang on the side.

Just need to run pump into drain for a few seconds when starting - clears the line and good to go

Fair enough, and the shut-off at the end you mention solves the problem of water escaping while retracting

So, I really like this and want to do something similar. HOWEVER, can anyone tell me how it would be possible to use this for removing water from the tank as well? Lets assume I use the python no spill kit on the drain end into a faucet

instead of connecting the reel to a pump, connect it to the green python venturi device attached to the sink. once drained, swap the reel to be connected to a pump in the mixing bin (note that the old tank water will be left in the hose and sent back to the tank)
