My Xenia is out of control... I have a field on the left side of my tank that has moved up on some rocks I don't want it on. Do you know of any method to remove it without damaging it? I was thinking of trying an X-Acto blade I have that is squared at the end and trying to scrape the rock without damaging the Xenia.

I also have a couple of tiny sprouts not in the vicinity or the main colony. I'm guessing there must have been a spawn at some point.

Is there much interest in frags of this coral?

I sucked mine off the rock with some tubing. It's been in a bucket for three days and it's still pulsing. I have a feeling it's pretty hardy.

I'm pretty sure you can trade it in to the LFS if nothing else.

FWIW - the stuff just won't live in my tank.

I just cut it off with a razor blade and put it in refugium. I can get out of control though. I wonder how much a fish store would give you for it in trade.

same here...Xenia did live to long...maybe different now with R/O water, 3 yrs. ago it was just filtered water

Most LFS are grow'em that too...so close to nothing, unless you got the purple ones?

Really? That frag I gave you didn't make it?

Started dying off so I gave to a newbie who picked something up from a group order. I figured it was better to let him try it than have it perish in my tank.

Hey Chris...here is what I do...I take a sewing needle and run it through the stalk of the xenia, close to the end. I then use a scaple to remove the stalk from the rock or wall. Use the needle to remove the xenia from the tank. This helps keeps it from turning into a ball of goo. I use frag plugs, but actually take a drill (with a 1/4 in bit) and drill a small divit in the center. Fill it with Coralfix, dab the stalk end of the xenia with a paper towel and place it in the divit in the plug. I wait a few minutes and place it in an area of low flow in the tank. Bingo...ya just got a $5-$10 frag ready to sell.
