AI Nero...Thoughts and Feedback (1 Viewer)

I have been using pretty much Ecotech's for water movement. I was wondering how people have liked the AI Neros. In general, I like the no cords of the Ecotech...but I could see some places that I might like a Nero.

Any feedback and opinions would be great.

I threw a Nero behind my rockwork and have been happy with it. Less modes than the Vortech, but also less noise.

I have been running a couple of Nero 3's for over a year and they have been great. I see they have just released the new Nero7 @4,000 GPH.

I lean toward Nero's cheaper and they get the job done. Mostly because I've been having issues with my vortecs falling lately... I've replaced many wetsides. Never had to replace a thing on a Nero. Hard to beat the flow from a mp60 though.

I ran a Nero 3 in a 32 gallon biocube. After I got rid of that tank it ended up in my 75 gallon freshwater. I like it. Moves a lot of water if you want it to. You can hear it hum a little at 70%+. Wouldn't say it is anything unique to these verse any other pump noise. It has a long cord so when you want to clean it becomes a little hassle. Especially since cord management is limited when you need to be able to remove it. Still would buy again, would recommend!

I heard so many stories of them getting stall alarms that I have waited to buy them. I was going to upgrade to the Nero 3 from the Jebao SWL-10s. I may have to look at them again since everyone here is having good luck with them.

I have 2x currently on my DT (36" long). They work great. Haven't had any issues with them.

+1 to this. I personally think that the only reason one should every get a vortech is for cord management. If you don't care about cords in you tank, they should be towards the bottom of your choice list. Replaced so many wetsides and never been impressed with their flow output.

Both the MP40 and Octo Pulse 4 advertise the same 4500gph (actually it looks like mp40's now say 5000) and yet I would guess my pulse 4 pushes out almost 3x as much flow as my mp40's.

Go figure, my wet sides are original but I’ve replaced 3 dry sides due to bearing noise. Next time one goes I’ll probably try a Nero 7. Only hesitation is they don’t list the minimum flow and I like to have an alternating gyre effect on my tank which is tricky if the opposite pump doesn’t slow down enough (like the Vortechs haha)

As someone already mentioned, Nero’s are nice for the 9 foot long and skinny power cord as well.

I have read the same thing on reviews. That prompted this thread. Might give it a go

I got 2 Nero 3s for my 125 when I was 1st setting it up. I quickly found that they couldn't move enough water for a 6' tank. So, I put both 3s on 1 side (front and back) and a Nero 5 on the other side. That was in August. I haven't had any issues with them other than a some initial connectivity PTIA on setup. My initial impetus to Neros was the lower price point, but I would definitely recommend them.
As far as minimum goes; Neros can go down to 10% on the random setting. So, if the 7 is saying its gonna push 4k max, 10% would be 400. I will say, tho, that I don't think the Neros actaully hit their max output most of the time. If you get any algae or any buildup around the impeller or basket, it will reduce you outuput. The Nero is also NOT a jet, like a Tunze or Gyre. It will disperse to the front and back pretty quickly, I'd say within 18-ish inches.

I'm a fan. I have a pair of Nero 5s in my 36" long tank. Never had a problem with them, they're a lot quieter than the Sicce XStreams I also have in there. they really churn the tank up when I crank 'em. Very happy with them. I've never used the ecotechs so I can't say anything in comparison.
