Well it seems hard to believe, but I have been a member of TCMAS for a year now! It feels like soooooo many meetings and conversations and exchanges and livestock sales and friendships and knowledge gained in such short time. The only reason I am certain it has only been a year is because my supporting membership expired!🙀😿 And everything that I can say I gained through membership to TCMAS in the past year has been worth well over $30! Being in Duluth, it seemed unlikely I would make it to many meetings, so a supporting membership was an easy decision for me. And as to would be, ended up hosting a couple meetings and attending half a dozen in the past year, HA! Even having secured lifetime membership status, and realizing how easy it is to make a trip for a meeting, supporting the club financially seems like a huge value add for my dollars!!

From my understanding, membership support, along with sponsoring businesses make up the bulk of the clubs revenue any given year. The Expos are hit or miss (whether we have them even these days) on the amount of actual revenue generated for the club. Perhaps if there were a more stable base of supporter generated funds, organizing and launching events would be any easier lift, certainly from a budgetary standpoint at least. Hopefully most members can see $30 worth of value out of being in this club. The classifieds alone will save ya 30 bucks over year I reckon!

So this is a call to all full members to gauge the value of TCMAS in your reef keeping journey. Lifetime members have certainly contributed to this community, and many thanks for hosting a meeting or throwing down in whatever manner gained you the prestigious badge🙏! But maybe it is also up to those that already have some skin in the game to truly ask what could be gained with a well funded and organized reef club. And for those who have attended meeting, thank you for earning the full rights of membership by participating in our community! But perhaps there is a bit more we ALL can do to make sure our BOD has the security of funding to make sure TCMAS can operate into the next year, and beyond.

I plan to renew my supporting membership year after year in this effort. There is the benefits of full membership, and a spiffy green badge!! Easy decision for me!! I encourage everyone to consider adding value to the club and your membership by becoming a supporting member!!!
🤘 💪✌️💜

Oops…..I let supportership(🤷🏽‍♂️) lapse for a couple weeks!🤦🏽‍♂️

But here we are, another year of value gained from this crew. The spring expo this past year was LIT!! The MN Co-op event was legit. And though I haven’t been able to make many of them, the opportunity for house meetings is still one of the greatest benefits of being a member.

So I can easily drop $30 to help support the organization, the efforts of the BOD and the MN reefing community at large!

Thanks to the @BOD for everything you give to this crew, your resources are precious! Thanks to everyone who hosts meetings, you help make this a community! And thanks to all the reef geeks and fish nerds who sign in, show up and in any way add value to this crew! Thanks for being a part of my reef keeping journey y’all!🪸🐠🎉

Keep doin what ya can to support TCMAS, it is OUR club! And keep reefing HARD!!!🤘🏼💪🏽✌🏿💜

I think I saw the budget sheet of this club (or forum, or society, or whatever you call it) before and I thought it was not that high/rich 😁. So, when I do the meetings, I don't ask for reimbursement for the meeting cost. I know I could, I'm not that innocent 😂, but I thought the club might need the money more, I can do without it 😄. Last time, I paid the club membership fee (or whatever you call it), I just made some people paying for it by selling some of my frags (Hey! I'm not well off either. I use money to do charity stuff sometimes but selling some frags is usually how I find the cash to do it 😄.) So, this brings up my question: Instead of donating cash, we have corals and stuff, can we support by donating frags? The club can have its own thread to sell back these frags, for maybe a lower price compared to most ot maybe equivalent or whatever, as a way to get cash in for the club? .. It might be a bit of more work involved, but if this is the case, I think people like me will usually be willing to donate some frags, as I think most people have frags anyway. The club could have someone who is in charge of coral intake and sell back, but that is more complicated. Or we could have a thread that manages the list of corals donated to sell for the club, but the pickups will be arranged with the ones who donate them? So that will eliminate the donated coral housing issue. ... Well, just a thought! 😁 .. .. Wasn't there an item from the last meeting to discuss about the club merchandise? .. This could be included in that? .. Maybe not all year round, but maybe a drive or two once a year?? 🤔 (EDIT: And just for clarity, I do not mean we change the system of 'paying for the membership', etc. I'm just suggesting that similar to the 'frag swaps', the club can do a 'donation/fund drive' maybe once or a twice a year, accepting frags from members and sell back to members/public for 'reasonable' price to make cash for the club. I think there are people who would be interested in buying for a good price? So, that'd be a win win? ... Again, just a thought!)

.. Okie, I got stuff to do! Later alligator! 😄

Donated frags would most likely be helpful at the expo but otherwise I’m not sure if anyone can handle the logistics currently. Awesome idea and I love the energy!

Great discussion y’all! Love it!💪🏽🤘🏼
@BlindSwordsman- this is a great idea Ken! I know there are some larger clubs that run “coral banks”. A framework where members donate coral to grow out in a dedicated system, then when it is time to frag some it gets distributed to those “in need” based on a prioritized list. Also at times incorporating a frag exchange system. Now you have pointed out some of the barrier to this, and I just don’t feel we have the capacity to make something like that work. But it is possible with the right resources and people involved. Definitely a worthy goal for a sustainable organization, I wanna keep exploring it. We are working on something similar with the NMRC currently.

Maybe have a couple of different membership levels? any way I am happy to donate beyond the annual membership fee. where do I do it?

Yaaaaaas!!!! Love it @Jonty! This is what I am talking about!👊🏾👏🏾🤘🏼

It seems we should have a framework for donations beyond the $30/yr supporter and $200/yr sponsor. And/or even an option for one time donations for people/organizations that just want to support without need for active involvement. Something worth exploring or highlighting if it exists. I reckon there are more fine folks out there that would give more than the bare minimum. Especially if we made it just a couple easy clicks.🤷🏽‍♂️🤙🏼

I am already a paying member? I dont need to sponser there is no method to donate? is the a way to donate to a PayPal acc?

Absolutely. Your generosity is amazing and the first time we’ve encountered the question as far as I know. I’ll bring it up with the @BOD. I think it’s probably as simple as linking the PayPal acct somewhere on the website but may be a spam concern with doing so. I’ll follow up here and send a PM.

I’d like a PM as well for donation logistics. I’m a lifetime member but am interested in annual donation as well.

As far as the PayPal thing goes. I’ve made a couple payments for things with PayPal and at the bottom there is always a donate $1 to TCMAS button.

That is likely eBay doing that since you've previously sent money to TCMAS via PayPal and we're a registered non-profit with them. It's nothing we have setup

Holy guacamole!!🥑 Another year of reefkeeping and community building has flown by!😅

And this club has been a fundamental part of all that yet again. I have found a way to budget more of my time for TCMAS as a gracious member of the BOD. I can surely budget another $30 this this year!? Maybe I won't buy that next board game, or book, or tool, or coral................but I probably will. Tell you what, I definitely get more than $30 worth of value from this rad crew of reef geeks and fish nerds!! 🐠🪸🤓

Consider supporting the club a bit further if you aren't already a supporter. If you are logged in (likely if you are reading this), clicking here will bring you to account upgrades. Or click on your "User Name/Icon" and select "Account Upgrades".

Keep reefing HARD, y'all!!!!🤘

Wowie zowie, a year goes by fast when you are reefing hard! Or LARSing to the max. 😅

I just re-upped my supporting membership, as is my intention year after year to help make TCMAS impactful to the reef keeping community in MN and beyond. Our club was one of the last recognized organizations involved in MASNA(rip). Though we didn’t leverage that in the recent past, it puts us on the map as one of the top 10 reefing communities in the country. I am proud to be a part of that energy and will do all I can to keep it raging for future reefers to ride.

$30 a year seems minimal from my financial standing, especially considering the crap I put into my life and body for much more MONTHLY (deathstix { @Varig 😜 }, weed, booze, coffee, adult entertainment, boardgames, books……). The least I can do is throw some money at something uplifting, positive and beneficial in my life.

Also…..many of the previously mention MASNA recognized organizations require dues to be a member of. We simple ASK for folk to throw down. Ain’t that some cool mid-western passive aggressiveness!?🤷🏽‍♂️

So consider (passive aggressively) contributing just a bit more to this bang up crew we are a part of. It came to light in today’s biz meeting’s financial report that supporting members are one of the top revenue streams for TCMAS. With YOUR support, we can keep making our club and our Expo better year after year. So throw on down…so we can keep reefing HARD!!!🐠🪸💜

Also, after today’s biz meeting, we will be moving forward with an option to allow folks to contribute more to our financial liquidity. There has been plenty of interest from people wanting to contribute more than the annual $30 support.

Look forward to a fairly simple solution to step up your contributions….🙀🪸🐠🥳

As a little poke to everyone out there. I just re upped my supporter status as well.

Thanks for the reminder, I did as well
