Well I have come to the conclusion that my Hanna digital salinity checker is indeed BS'ing me. After several tests, calibrations and buying other measuring tools.. here are the results:

Hanna = 1.024
TM Hydrometer = 1.026
BRS Refractometer = 1.026
Instant Ocean Hydrometer = Gave up on this thing.. inconsistent every time.

So there you go.. Was low salinity the cause of my LPS issues? Maybe. I do believe it was low but not as low as I thought. I think it was more nutrients and lighting. Both of which I am addressing.

Acclimating lighting down to 70% from 80%. Will retest PAR at 75%. And working on lowering N03 and P04 a bit.

I would recommend avoiding the rabbit hole of changes. Try another euphyllia in 6 months. Leave the lighting it’s good. Your clam is happy, I’d use that as a baseline.

You’re buying some LPS from me that’s getting about the same amount of PAR and it’s happy :)

I have been doing 10% water changes which has not lowered the N03 or P04 much.. I am kicking that up to 20% to see if that helps. I do have NOPOX on standby but hoping the water changes suffice here,

So even though euphylia hates me, my Lobo and Leather seem to be thriving (and of course GSP and Zoa as well)

I am curious, any concerns with how the Lobo is sitting here? Too close to sand? For the leather, should I consider removing it from frag plug?

Just looking at your mag, if you’re going to do euphyllia again, bump it up to 1500 which is pretty widely accepted for happy hammers and torches.

As long as you lobo doesn't get covered with sand it will do fine. As far as the leather plug, that is up to you. Leathers are tricky to attach where you want them. Mostly because you cannot just glue them down. You could snip the stem portion of the plug off so it sits flatter.

Thanks! I will just let both be for now :)

Starting to fill in nicely!!

Thanks! Agreed!

Also, parameters starting to stabilize with the AFR and 20% weekly WCs.. still getting that N03 down.. But P04 looking pretty good.

Salinity = 1.026
pH = 8.1
Alkalinity (dKH) = 8.1
Calcium (Ca2) = 450
Magnesium (Mg2) = 1430
Nitrate (N03) = 18
Phosphate (P04) = 0.12

Glad to hear. Out of curiosity, is that fungia new? He looks pretty unhappy, but perhaps that was just time of day? I found that when I first got mine it was pretty pissed off and looked like that. The only thing that started bringing him back to healthy was spot feeding. Just a little unasked for advice :). I do love my fungia, it's one of my favorites.

Yeah I got him at the expo so he had only been in the tank a few hours there.. Seems to be doing much better now!

Whew, good deal. They're such a cool coral. When I saw him unhappy I just felt obligated to speak (again, unsolicited, sorry about that). Really glad to hear it's doing better!

Don't be sorry.. I appreciate you speaking up !

Reef-a-Palooza was awesome. Highly recommend you check it out if you can. While away I got my ICP results back from ATI.. overall I think I am looking ok.. aside from elevated PO4 and NO3 which I am working on getting lower with more frequent water changes. Hopefully I start to see some better trace elements with this AFR. Right now I am only dosing 10ml day.
