JJ's Red Sea Reefer 250 G2+ (1 Viewer)

Well it has been a rough couple weeks for me and the tank. First, my rockscape fell over and damaged some corals. No idea why. Rock arch was glued and epoxied and just decided to fail after a year. I added a new arch and reattached everything with JB WaterWeld. Seems fine now, but my skimmer is still going crazy days later. I had opened the drain valve on the cup as it was continually overflowing but now just shut if off for the time being.

Next, my InkBird controller temp probe malfunctioned while out of town. Meaning it is reading 110+ even with the probe not in water. This caused my temps to fluctuate between 75 and 82 over the course of four days. Ugh. Luckily the temp setting on my Eheim heaters was set to max at 82.

Also, my NO3 has dropped from ~15ppm to now ~1. Can't explain that unless it had to do with skimmer constantly overflowing and draining. But not sure.

Here is how things are looking now.. some things have died. Nem is completely missing and my multi head torch appears to have brown flesh.

Man bad luck. Sorry to hear about that. Thankfully the rock didn’t crash into the glass.

Pretty strange about your nitrates. I wouldn’t expect it to be going away if you’re not actually removing the skimmate. When was the last time you tested? Has there been any downward trend? Or is this totally out of the blue?

Regarding your torch, others will know better than me, but is that what brown jelly looks like? I don’t honestly know, but I thought it was a big ugly brown thing coming out of the heads. If so, you may want to consider removing it and dipping so it doesn’t spread. Again I’m no expert so I suggest googling the treatment protocol. But I would consider acting for sure.

As Ben said, ups and downs. Hopefully it turns around soon for you.

Sorry to hear. It is a setback but an opportunity to learn and improve. Try to add some redundancy when possible as equipment will fail as a matter of time. Maybe set the Eheim lower closer to your ink bird range.

Thanks guys. I tested a week ago and nitrates were 15. So very odd. Is it possible the new piece of rock absorbed the nitrates? I am not sure what else.

Regardless, I think I may slowly start to transition to a mostly FOWLR tank. Adding a Blue Spotted Puffer tomorrow which should help :)

I noticed today my Seachem Ammonia Alert badge now shows "Alert" color. I am wondering if the missing Nem actually died and that may have spiked the Ammonia?

Yikes! Water change time. I had wondered about that when you said the nem was missing. If it died for sure that could be part of the issue I would think.
