Careful with the emeralds. Put 6 in my tank and they like to eat my soft corals. I have actually seen them tearing off the flesh and eating it. Not sure if they are going after others. Might have been the demise of my AOG conlony I got from you. Hard to say. I think I am down to 4 crabs now.
 
I have had like 3 bubbles of bubble algae (knock on wood) and all of them I have been successful removing manually. Just take the frag/rock out, carefully pry the bubble from the frag/rock/substrate making sure to not pierce the bubble.

If the frag/rock/blah isn't removable, shut off your pumps, powerheads, try to manually remove the bubble algae while vacuuming with a waterchange hose (in case you do pop it, any spores get removed by the siphon)
 
Hummm that makes me wonder if I could just use a Hypodermic needle to de-inflate them.
 
I use a hard piece of tubing connected to about 5' of soft tubing. Shut off all pumps, and then start a siphon. Use the hard tubing in the tank to suck and scrape out all pieces of the bubble algae. Some will pop. But with no flow on you are more then likely to suck out all the spores. I did this in my 6 gallon for about a month or so and no more bubble algae. Works great for getting into those hard to reach areas for cleaning also.

Anyways, here is an after hours sump shot I took a couple nights ago. I still need to add a extra baffle to it, and mount the power strips. Hoping for an Apex Jr. for fathers day:biggthumpup:

blah!!! I unplugged my return pump to feed tonight, and now that I plugged it back in, nothing. I can feel the thing vibrating but there is no water coming back up.

Please any suggestions on what kind of pump I should get for my 65 gal tank+20 gal sump? I am not well versed on sump stuff :(

If you take the pump apart and soak the pump in vinegar to clean it. Might help it to start back up. Unless you just want a new pump.

+1 to what ^^ said... unless its dead dead or you're waiting for a chance to get a new pump....if looking for a new pump... my choice will be the Ehiem 1250
 
take it out and punch it. It'll lose up the jammed parts. Don't be shy either, go to town on that pump.
 
Thank you! that actually work, good frustration reliever :shocked: the water return is still kind of slow. I've heard the quiet one pumps are nice, any ideas of a formula to calculate the size for a 65 gal?
 
Good to hear you got it working. It was great seeing your tank and thanks for the frags, they are doing great.

I was looking at the mag 7 or eheim 1262 for my 40. I wanted something around 400-500 after head loss and such.
 
Thanx guys, I found this little formula interesting:

Fish only:10 times of your DT volume
-LPS, Softies :15-20 times DT volume
-SPS : 20 plus times DT volume

So technically speaking I need to go for 65X15-20 to come up with my recommended gpd.
 
Does anybody have a healthy frag of AOG FS or FIF? my colony melted :(
 
So work has been very intense lately, but its slowing down. Time for a quick update. A couple months I got my Apex Jr. I am loving it. It mostly gets controlled from my laptop and phone. I was going to document the install, but I got too excited. I had to do some modding to have two pumps run out of one outlet, but it is working great.

My AOG frag is finally starting to grow, I will let you know when it's ready and will get you a frag.

Also, what bulb combination are you running?
 
I took my my pump to ocean devotion, it seemed I had a swelled impaler? anyways, they replaced it with a new impaler for free. Pump is good as new :)
