120 gallons of "No Honey, it doesn't cost that much..." (1 Viewer)

Yeah...Not the way to end a family vacation by walking into that at 10pm in the evening...Managed 3 hours of sleep last night. The Breaker tripped at the electrical panel - can't figure out why. It's a 20A circuit and I had all other items unplugged while away, so only the Aquarium was running on it. Gonna spend today cleaning and scrubbing all equipment and then go through a "cooling down" period for both the wife and I before considering my next steps.
 
When I built home the electrican said that my two circuits had arc fault breakers and that they suck and they go off on the slightest thing. Maybe you have one of those? He told me to switch them out. I'll probably swap out using a built in gfci breaker.

Since the great crash of 2014, the tank sat empty. Until today. My son decided he's had enough of the 29 gallon tank in his room (for now), and my daughters had enough of their 10 gallon taking up precious real estate on the dresser; "But Dad, it's loud, smelly and I need room for my nail polish and new American Girl doll." My son got too busy with Swimming, School and running around with his friends...
So, what was their's is now in my tank and it's awfully sparse...The RBTA that filled his 29 biocube touching 3 sides at once now has plenty of room to stretch its legs. I'll be slowly adding in some rock over the winter to try and rebuild the reef, but with funding limited post-holiday shopping - this meager stocking will have to suffice.



 
Ya ! I assume you have or will address the 1 circuit/ redundancy issues.

I'm addicted enough, that I can have fun with anything. So it doesn't take having super rare this or this or even really hard to keep stuff. Like most of us ( me included ) tend to get pretty wrapped up in that. In fact, you will probably get more enjoyment out of it just the opposite. Nice, fluffy easy to keep stuff that you can enjoy rather than more work.

Keep it simple can really work and work well.

Changed out the breaker to prevent the random/frequent tripping. Also have a USB WiFi installed for the apex controller, just waiting for a friend to come over when he has time to help with setup and dynamic IP. Easy & Simple corals work for me now, the stuff in the tank came from 2 tanks that were totally neglected since I was travelling and working crazy hours for the past year. There's a rabbit fish hiding in there that helps with Hair Algae, he/she had the 10 gallon cleaned up, now can snack on what came from the Biocube. The move to the 120 was accelerated since my Son's tank went out of whack on New Years Day. He hasn't been doing anything - serioulsy, nothing! ...it caught up with him finally and he woke up to a cloudy, messy, high nitrate fiasco. As I was already running mine for a few weeks and just waiting on the Apex to be hooked to the internet, we were able to quickly move his stuff to my tank without losing anything. When I asked him about his last water change...his best guess was before School started...Hmmm, Sept-Jan without a water change is bad??? Toughest darn clownfish and rbta I've ever seen.
