120g Acrylic Acropora Addiction (1 Viewer)

So as @Jposch noted, bubble algae is going nuts again. I’m HOPING it’s from the ammonium bicarbonate and not the Iron in Nyos salt (I just bought 4 boxes 😭). Both of which I used about 2 years ago so i can’t rule either out.

Gonna try and feed more, and turn off skimmer to 10% for an hour after feeding and see if I can keep detectable nitrates

In fairness, I have been dosing ammonium bicarb for all my nitrate needs, and I can't say my bubble algae got any worse. In fact I will say that recently it has been substantially less bad (last 6 months or so). I don't know if one of my tangs started to take a liking to it or what. But I haven't manually removed any for probably at least 9 months, whereas I was previously going in once every 1-2 months to knock to knock it back. Majority of that was on TM Pro. We will see what happens with the switch to Red Sea Blue bucket.

Sucks though that it's getting worse :(.

I personally have never noticed iron to enhance valonia. Not like the ammonium does. Silicate seems to also be a major fuel for algae IME.
The ammonium is such a double edged sword. Best for someone who doesn't have bubble algae, or any lighted areas for it to grow that a rabbitfish or tang can't reach.

In one of the reef therapy episodes Jake mentioned that typically in a mature reef the blooms subside with out a lot of intervention. I would classify your reef as mature though

Yeah man the bubble algae and vermatids in my tank are old enough to get their driving permit 😭

Fair enough
The ones I know that eat it in my tank is emerald crab, fox face , purple tang and yellow tang… the areas they cannot reach or eat I scrape off. It is definitely a prolific bugger. But it does not seem to harm anything things grow on top of it for now
