Picked up this tank a week ago and got some time to work on it today.

As it sat this morning.

Cut out the melted braces.

Replaced the braces with acrylic.

Made a pattern for the stand.

Added 2x6's to the top of the stand to raise the height of the tank and add a 12" ledge in front of the tank.

Painted the back and overflow sides black. (First coat)

Painted the ledge for waterproofing. Going to tile the top.

As it sits tonight!

Yes I know the couch is facing the wrong way... the other half insists it face the tv.... :goldfish:

Who needs a TV. Couple bar stools and you are set. Or, I think turning the couch sideways would solve your problem. Each could sit at the end of the couch and turn their head to the side.

just curious why you took the other brace out and replaced it with the acrylic, i have a glass one on my 110 oceanic and it gets so covered with salt creep splash then it shades the area below it, as far as corals, i would like it without anything but i would loose a lot of support, i guess personelly if the tank is goung to let go those braces wont help, because there just glued in? just my 2cent on the idea.

i can see that but still there going to get covered a lot faster the then original brace that was in there.

The one that wasn't broken was melted pretty bad and fragile.

I wanted to but didn't use weld on. I went with Loctite Epoxy for Plastic. I think it will work just fine, we'll find out! (I read some threads on RC and people have used it with good results.)

Yep, couldn't pass it up for the price. Even add the $50 in gas to drive from Rochester to Blaine and back and it was still a steal!

Both doors open next to each other in a hallway (we live in a duplex and have a neighbor upstairs) We have windows in each room large enough to fit through (besides the kitchen- where the main entrance is located)

Thanks again for the tank! This is only 1 day of work on it, still a ways to go but I think it'll be pretty nice when I'm done! :biggthumpup:

Designed and built the canopy today. Lots of wood glue, waiting to paint it until tomorrow. Also should finish up the stand tomorrow as well. The three canopy doors are not connected to the canopy yet, have to get some hinges. The doors will open up and lay on top of the canopy when open. Probably going to make doors for the stand as well to match the canopy. Thinking about using the same tile as the counter top for the insets of the doors... Still need to trim it out.

Installed a new piece of plywood to cover up the holes in the stand.

Painted the trim black with spray paint for plastic.

Going to add tile to the doors that match the counter top.

Need to paint the inside of the doors. (going with white)

Installed a seal to keep light from leaking into the room since the canopy sits directly on the tank without coming down around the trim.

The stand and canopy are the same width as the tank so I can put the 2 bookshelves right next to it. (so it looks like a built-in somewhat)

Got more paint, still need to do a couple things to the stand so I can attach the outside doors.

Bulkheads are installed.

Looked at some tile, looks like it's going to cost around $250 in materials for what I want to use... Should be nice though!
