4x8' sheet of 1/4" black acrylic, WHat should I make with it! (1 Viewer)

Well after getting a very good deal on a 4'x8' sheet of 1/4" black acrylic I will be making a couple of things with it but will only use about a 4th of the sheet for these projects! What else could I make with this stuff to get some use out of it? I'm making a couple of overflow covers for both my tanks as I have had to fish out my Yellow Corris Wrasse from the sump the other day! I'll also be making a couple of probe holders, some dosing tube holders, and some ATO float switch holders.

I have enough frag racks, I was thinking since I need to make the doors for my display tank to use the acrylic for the center panels? Will this hold up or will it eventually warp? basically using the acrylic in a frame for the doors with a bit of silicone to hold them and to keep them from vibrating.

I purchased a blade for my table saw to hopefully make the cuts clean but is there anything else I need to do to help with making the cuts? I have never worked with acrylic so this will be a learning experience!

I do still need to finish my sumps baffles, would black acrylic work or will it be a issue with visibility in the sump?
 
lol, I could I just need a band saw to match the curve of the overflow possibly!
 
My stand has a sheet of smoked acrylic separating the sump from the electric area. It was put there by the previous owner and has been there for years. It has not warped yet. ;)
 
I might use some of it for baffles in my sump build, and since I'll already be cutting and building it won't be a issue to make you some covers too while I'm at it! cbwaters, PM me if you want some, I don't think I will need this much at all!
 
I would buy some overflow covers also. I found a jigsaw works well to cut acrylic. That's what I used when I cut out acrylic windows for my party bus. You just need to get the speed right so it doesn't melt the acrylic back together after you cut it. I had that happen to me the first time I tried cutting the stuff.
 
I will go check out the blades for jigsaws. I do have a overflow for a template to use too. Lets see how clean I can make these first.
 
Cliff, if you figure it all out, I'd be down to come hang out, and cut some acrylic (newbie style) and make some fun stuff.

I have a piece of Grey Smoked Acrylic that I/d play around with.

It's roughly 30x20x1/4" I think


I bought it from Mannish, taklu, at the swap
 
Flush trim bit with 3 blades for the router and some good double side tape and you'll have professional overflow covers with ease
