55g turn-around (1 Viewer)

i too want to give you the ol "tip of the cap".... very nice turn around!! and i want to say you deff made the best out of a very limited aquascape area with a 55 gal tank... i had one... i hated it... never could get the scapre the way i wanted too

Beats the 37g we had. . . . I swear they should just stop making those.

Update on the tank and some new corals!

The GSP rock has amazingly dense growth on both the front and back side. When it grows this dense I don't see how people could possibly consider this beauty a pest.

Pink Birdnest doing great

Red Pavona doing amazing. You can just see the glowing white growth tips.

'ahem' just a little big. Can't even stand upright.
011-6_zps2b0a717e.jpg

The Red Acan heads growing bigger every day. Noticed 2 more on the far left head today also.
014-5_zps7a3dc6f3.jpg

Pink Birdnest frag that broke off the momma growing great. I literally can't move it cause a branch has grown INSIDE the little cranny in a partially hollow rock so I can't even pull it out anymore lol
Rainbow Poc was doing well till it fell off its plug :( Still doing fine though
Chocolate Chip Monti encrusting happily onto a rock.

My 2 different type of Xenia doing great
016-3_zpseed143e2.jpg

Somehow this one fell off but is thriving in the back (has actually tripled in size within a week)
017-4_zps8ca32ea5.jpg

Candy Cane still splitting on all 3 heads.....I want those new heads so badly. :frown:

Green Pavona frag that hasn't grown in almost a year has a bunch of ridges appearing....lets hope for a colony soon :beerchug:

Also ordered a head of green hammer from Irish and maybe a Purple plating monti from Ben. Will Update with those corals when I get them!
Hope you enjoyed. Comments appreciated!

UPDATE

So apparently I never updated this thread with the new rockwork!

Day of refurbishing

FTS as of today, the water level is low only cause I had to use some water to move 2, out of place rocks to my 20g.

So long story short, everything was growing well aside from 1 or 2 corals and then a magic fairy came a punished my success with salt. For an extended period of time the salinity was at a SG of 1.030, some actually did surprisingly well, but most are pissed or dead and just in time for an algae spike. Luckily my parents agreed with the idea of an HOB fuge and a CUC so those should help a good amount.

My worst casualty.....

Still not sure why they aren't opening...

This Nepthea is actually growing for the first time in forever.

My Spongode, was completely brown with no visible polyps a few days ago (during salinity spike) and has regained some green color and its nice bushy polyps. Just laying on its side loosely was enough for it to encrust on its entire side to the rock.

For the very first time this orange monti is showing pink polyps....kinda freakin' me out.

Purple monti has grown some little "humps" and the pavona in the middle looks nice and fuzzy.

My pride and joy. Probably the coral with the longest lasting success so far in my tank.

THE HEADS HAVE FINALLY SPLIT!!!!!!!!!

Just sittin' there. Haven't really noticed/bothered with paying attention to this candy cane.

Some casualties of war :( Millepora and Pocillopora will be missed.

I love this fuzzy little guy.

Starting to look more like a brain coral than a pavona :gay1:

Has grown about 1/2" rim, still don't see any more tubes though.

In loving memory of:

Paul, the Pocillopora...

Jeffrey, the Pulsing Xenia

Bert, the Birdnest

Fred, the Frogspawn

and....

"The Pimps", the GSP colony

Looking good still though. I have a pocci I can split in held and give you of you'd like.

Can you repeat that second sentence for me plz? :gay1:

Did ANOTHER 9g WC within a week of my last, 6g WC. I really hope this turns around, algae is always everywhere and I can't even lay off the feedings cause of Pancake... what is the best option for a CUC that will destroy algae and eat detritus? I was thinking of getting a CUC from the swap.

Decided I'd do an update while my tank is doing so well(cause who knows how long that will last).

Just cleaned the front glass so there are probably 2 corals I won't update on till later cause one I knocked off its rock and another I nailed with the glass scraper.

FTS:

My Photosynthetic Sponge

Acan, not doing so hot sadly.

One of my clowns has started hosting this candy cane. Growing really fast.

Another candy cane, doing super well started from 3 heads and is at 10 in about half a month of growth (including the currently splitting heads).

First time seeing this pagoda with its tentacles this far out, you can see the growth around the rim and are starting to show some mini tubes coming out.

Kenyan Tree doing great

Pink with green polyps birdnest has recovered AMAZINGLY from being buried in its previous owner's tank.

Red Pavona nice and fuzzy as usual :)

Can't tell if it has grown at all, but it's still alive so I'm happy.

Chocolate Chip Monti encrusting like mad

Xenia are back and kicking again which is a relief for me.

Green Pocci, looks happy still needs to recover from being half buried in sand in someone else's tank.

Purple Monti getting some really cool ridges on it and some vertical growth too, really excited to see how it looks when it matures.

Red Monti is officially red again after 1 year!

Bird of Paradise, again, bottom half was buried in sand but rest of it is nice and fuzzy.

Probably the most obvious growth in the tank, was originally laying on its side on the rock but has fully encrusted on that side now. Have broken countless branches by accident and you still can't tell.

Has grown twice its size in 2 months, first time it has grown since we got it THREE YEARS AGO!!!!!!

Litho I got at fragswap, needs more flow maybe?

Will be updating with the rest of the corals tomorrow when they perk up again. Super happy about this tank right now and seems that just a week of having the new skimmer up and running has really turned this tank around.

Looking back at my original post, I think I can say MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Very nice!

Could the litho be getting stung by those palys? Also, what's your alk? Looks like some of my fleshy corals have before when alk gets to low for to long

Pink with green polyps bird nest looks like a poccilopora to me. Still a cool piece. Your tank is doing well!

Update shots, lots of new growth ^___^

Bi-Color Hammer

Spongode, tons of branches coming out.

Moved the Litho to an area with a little bit more flow, has thanked me with 2 more heads within a few weeks :)

Noticing lots of ridges forming on my red monti now

Purple Monti doing great, along with the green pavona in the middle.

Bird of Paradise starting to re-encrust on the lower parts

Jedi Mind Trick Monti has finally recovered, good thing too, it was one of my fav

Grandis Palys surprisinly doing well in such a high lighted spot

Candy Cane nice a puffy :)

Superman Shroom looking good

This thing just can't stop splitting heads!

Diaseris Plates moved from my 20g to the 55, looking good so far, seeing some new heads at the front most tip (really small)

Orange Yuma

Not growing, not decaying

Green Pocci growing back over the dead parts

Xenia definitely doing well

Purple Digi doing good

Red Pavona, very nice extended polyps :)

Green Pavona Frag doing great

Tubinara coral (I think), lots of growth on the plate but not many new tubes coming out.

Kenyan doing good, shooting out babies all the time

UnKnown SPS gaining some color back

Birdnest/Pocci doing good

Very nice progress! Looks like your tank is doing a lot better now. You should stop over for some more frags when your ready, I've got a few doubles and pieces that have broken off I could give you!

I'm not far from you I have some generic pallys and some yellow polyps I'd be more than happy to give to you if you wanted something new. Was trying to sell them all for $5-10 no bites and it would be a shame to toss them but I need room. If your interested pm! I'm right off cr-13 about 15 minutes from apple valley.

Cool, I really need to work on my pally & Zoa husbandry skills and some generic ones would be great to start! :)
