60G Cube Build a work in progress. (1 Viewer)

Well -- not going to do anything with flush mounting the apex display to the lid. No responses to me indicates it's not doable.

Update:

Today I'm going to demount my corals off my rocks and mount them to rock rubble because I wont have time to do it this weekend.

Found quite a few light scratches on the display, as a result to me using a scour pad I thought was scratchless and it wasn't. So I have bought a glass scratch kit from Glass Technology (GTGlass.com) which is a three step process. Also hope to get rid of the hard water deposits on side of glass that even an overnight soak in vinegar didn't help. I'm going to work on this on Monday, as well as acid bathe all live rock that has algae on it.

Tuesday, after the rock has soaked in Ro/DI water over night, I am going to build my rockwork using Marco Rocks Cement kit. I'm not going to putz with drilling, pipe and nylon nuts. Heck no! I'll post pictures when I'm done.

Wednesday -- Entire tank will be torn down. Makeshift tank will be set up at new place, and will set up everything from RO/DI to new aquarium so cycling can begin with th efew pieces of liverock that don't get acid washed and a few cups of old sand.

Lots of work.

Well, everything is moved and is now living in a 30 gallon makeshift tank. Because of the move itself and the fact that I stripped almost EVERYTHING from the previous tank that was live due to nuisance algae and xenia corals which were smothering my SPS, I just began to fill the tank with water. Tonight I will check the plumbing to ensure no leaks, add salt and then sand. :greenguy::greenguy::greenguy::greenguy:

Sounds like all of your planning and building will come to life very soon. Looking forward to pics of what everything looks like.

well here's an update:

So it started by acid washing most of the rocks to kill the xenias. Then bought some mortar mix from marco rocks.

Here's the pre-building of the rocks...just figuring things out. I wanted to keep a neat footprint so the rocks weren't occupying much room in the 2'x2' area.

Here they are almost half completed

I was going to keep some of the live rocks...live...but it began to stink and there was nuisance algae on some of the pieces of rock...so this was done a week before I began to fill up and bleached it...then after a good long soak in ro water it baked outside for a day...the temps for early july were well into the 90's...I just wanted to ensure all of the bleach had disappeared.

Began filling up about halfway after the move. The aquarium had some scratches on the front of the glass as well as the inside. I was able to borrow a high speed drill and used this kit from GTGlass.com to buff out the scratches. Some of the scratches were there...but I was pretty pleased with the final polish that really gave the clarity back to the glass.

After a while, I was able to add in my livestock. I did transition a small piece of live rock and a nice large cup of sand from the previous system to introduce into this system. Here it is almost fully stocked. My SPS corals are still in the makeshift but I transferred the fish and the other livestock.

Looks great. Mortar all the way my friend, did you wait for mortar to leach any chemicals in freshwater or straight into the tank? I just dunked my rockwork for 24 hours in a tub of tap water and then straight into the tank.

yeah I had soaked the rocks in tap water for a day. NO issues. The marco rocks mix is water potable so I wouldn't have been too concerned if I didn't soak it. I'm just glad I didn't have to deal with stupid acrylic rocks and drilling. The only thing I need to do now is mount my lights...need a ladder though to do that.
