So with the parting of our Hippo tang and an up coming meeting we decided to add another fish already.
I admit I'm not a QT person. I'm not set up for it and don't have the patience for it yet.
I do have a acclimation box and have used it in the past but only for a few hrs.
I'm curious as to what others do time frame wise.
I'm not sure I want to leave the new fish in this box few a few days as AI recommendation found. I think it would stress it out more. We chose a Eibli Angelfish. On the guessing full grown side. Should we leave it in the box overnight or let it free before the lights go out?
It's been awhile since adding a new fish from a store to this tank. 20250202_195402.jpg

Not sure regarding fish size vs box size in your circumstance. One guy I follow online actually leaves his fish for 1-2 weeks in the acclimation box. So.. :)

Do you have aggressive fish that you’re worried about bullying the new guy? If not maybe it’s less of an issue? I have heard letting them out in the pitch dark of night is the best as well.

Good luck! Looks like a pretty fish.

I leave, when I acclimate, fish in the box min 3 days. If they are eating, nonaggressive, and all around seems fine I release. I’ve had better luck with acclimating the fish this way than not.

3-5 days for me.. but I have also just floated the bag and dropped em in.. lol. Not so much anymore now that I actually have an acclimation box.

I have to start putting a watch on these threads I start. I have missed all the responses you guys have given. Sorry about that.
We left him in for a few days. I gave him everything I had in food to see if he would eat. He unfortunately did not eat ANYTING.
This was another hard lesson learned. Never buy a fish unless you ask to see it eat. He passed a week later after we decided to let him in the tank
and see the other fish eat and follow soot. I don't like seeing any fish go so soon or at all for that matter.

No real aggressive fish at all. Beauty for sure

Done this too with no issues

I'm not sure if this is helpful, but petco.com is doing some 20% off sale on some marine fish. The flame angel is now from $90-104. I ordered some fish from them before which was not too bad. I think it's basically the same like we would go to the store and ask them to order for us. The fish come from the same place (?). The difference is we get no guarantee for the fish at the store, but online, they offer 7 day guarantee. I did have a few fish died on me after arrival or they died during shipping but the reps were very willing to have the fish reshipped or having the money refunded (with the requirement of submitting a picture of the dead fish).

Edit: I just woke up and thought I should add this info 😁: They also offer free overnight shipping for order over $139, so I usually try to order enough to get free shipping. Their packing is good. The only thing is they offer limited sorts of fish but their price is 'okay'. The fish is shipped from the vendor, but Petco reps usually are easy and very willing to work with if there are issues. There are many places do the same thing (i.e. take your order and have the fish shipped from/by the vendor) but they also add in other shipping fee, box fee, guarantee fee, etc. .. I'm not advertising for Petco or anything. Just saying what I know 😁.
