acharpenters downsize and refurbish (1 Viewer)

The locline can just go over the top, it doesn't need to go over the top and out the overflow.

But, if you really want it to do that, a hole saw will cut through acrylic without a problem and make a nice round hole to slide the locline into.

For my tank, I have a 90 degree elbow that is threaded on one side. It sits about an inch above the rim and the locline screws into that and goes down to the tank.

Now, if you do this, get the real locline. That cheap imitation stuff that comes from Aqueon isn't really very water tight.
 
only down side to matts way, if you put a top on your tank, that little section of plumbing will likely be higher than the tank.

But your not suppose to put a top on a reef tank so carry on ;)
 
I will be putting a screen top on it so the plumbing needs to be completely in the tank.

Shouldn’t be a problem to zing a "U" into the overflow to accommodate the locline though

There is a caveat of this...

The corners don't match right on the U for the locline. It still works, but its not as "neat/tight" tight as it could be. I can show you on mine if you want to stop over again.

oh wait. I misread. Ignore what I said.

I thought you were putting a U into the screen top. Thats where it doesn't fit right.

K - cool, I was a little confused, but this hobby does that to me just about everyday

Current holding tanks

98% of everything is currently hanging out in the 29 gallon Nanocube.

I didnt try to aquascape it at all other than placing corals in the correct lighting/flow areas.

Everyone seems to be happy - they have been in there about 2-3 weeks thus far.

Tank shots are not the best as I have been spending all my time on the 40 build, I have let the algea go a bit on the glass.

Once I decided I was going to build the 40 breeder, I had to scramble to find something to house the LR that wouldnt fit in the 29 Nano

Threw up an extra 20 filled it with LR - put a 40 HOB on it and lighting (yeah Kev is "real" pleased with a tank on the kitchen counter :gay1:)

After about a week in the Nano I realized my Frogspawn was NOT happy with the flow in the Nano (too much) and I couldnt find a spot for him with correct flow that would not have him next to a nem getting stung.

So he went into the temp LR tank. Also had some rics and a shroom that ended up in there with some of the LR that would'nt fit in the Nano

Also had to place my 5th RBTA in there as I could'nt get him off the huge rock he was on, and there was no way to fit the rock in the 29

Last, the only fish in there is the first fish ever purchased from Discovery Aquatics under thier new owners - my awesome Firefish.

Figured I would throw him in there rather than with all the established LS in the Nano

Progress!!!!

Sump trim painted black, baffles in cured and return chamber water tested

Stand siliconed in, 3rd coat of paint applied. The roller for the 3rd coat really made it look nice. While we were at it, we decided to roller the outside of the tank as well

Was planning on ordering an acrylic cover for the Tek lights. Turns out Kelly had some acrylic laying around for us. So Kev cut some acrylic and it looks/fits perfect!! Bye bye salt spray! (BIG Thanks to Kelly for providing us with the acrylic!!!!)

2. Painting the wall in the living room behind where the stand has/will sit
3. Organizing tying up the wiring inside the stand
4. Fabricating an acrylic sheet to hold the sump light in

Do you have any way to protect that powerstrip from getting splashed? Maybe just a little acrylic cover to keep salt spray out? Otherwise, it looks really great. Get 'er wet!
