Ok, I thought it was time to start my tank build thread. I've ran smaller reefs for a few years now. I bought a house in August so it was only time to start a large reef.

I knew I wanted a large reef and rimless. I decided on peninsula because of the layout of the room and it's really nice to have both sides to 'reef out.'

I decided on a 72"x40"x18" glass rimless tank with external overflow. I shopped around for quotes and Miracles known for great quality came in with the lowest price (much cheaper than Glass Cages actually). The tank will have two 1.5" drains and two 1" returns. The sump and plumbing will all be in the basement.

I officially ordered the tank a few weeks ago. They are waiting on a tempered section of the tank that is supposed to be ready at the beginning of the week and should be built by the end of the week. It's coming soon.

I've bought a bunch of stuff based on advice from others and my own reading. it probably won't be perfect as this is my first large reef but I'm sure you guys will help me through it.

i'll post in separate posts some of things I've purchased once I get some pictures.

Here was my mockup I sent out while getting quotes.

That will be an amazing tank to see born. I'd be bugging the manufacturer for pictures by now. What are your plans for skimmer choices and lighting?

Looks like a sweet build. Can't wait to see the progress,

What are you planning for the sump layout? SPS? LPS? Softies? What do you plan to stock it with?

I'll bug them next week once they get that glass piece.

I got a really good deal on new Octopus Extreme 250. I won't have a lot of bioload for awhile so it should hold me over for a bit.

Bob @ Reef Mania is building my sump. 48 x 24 x 18 it's going to have filter sock holders, skimmer area and return area. I just couldnt get the volume of water that will overflow to workout with an internal fuge. This will give me plenty of overflow room with pump outage.

I plan on running an external fuge from an old 90 gallon I have.

Lighting to start will be two 60" ATI Powermodules with:
ATI Aquablue
Blue Plus
KZ Fiji Purple
Blue Plus
Blue Plus
GE 6500K Daylight

GE 6500K Daylight

Maybe I should go take a couple pictures now of some of the stuff...

I'm going to attempt to keep a little mixture of corals in different "sections". Fish will be minimal.

I'll just call these teaser pictures since I just took them real fast.

lots of stuff:

Hey, if you need anything for your tank, check out Ocean Devotion in Burnsville, they will help you out!! Great Store :goldfish:

Can we book a meeting there now? By summer time you should be ready... lol

sure, I'd be honored but as Ray pointed out...the pressure is on now

Maybe we should just do next months and I can put everyone to work :)
