as i am looking at my tank im realising i dont get much flow around the backside of the rockwork.... my question is how many people just rest the rock up against the back glass.. since my tank is a cube it is viewable from 3 sides.... if i pushed my rockwork back the 3 inches it will open up alot more for the front of the tank...... questions, comments and concerns all welcomed

oh and all the hair algae i am getting is congregating on the back walls of the tank and rock.... hence the idea the front portion of rock and tank has 0 hair algae

I've seen a PCV pipe behind the rock work with holes drilled in it. likely fed with a power head in the tank someplace.

I had mine against the back wall on a few different occasions. I never really liked it as it didnt get much flow around the rocks and more so becuase I wanted my rock work set up so that the fish can swim around, above, behind, below.....you get the idea ;)

I had mine almost against the back for the first 2 years and it just became a pain. Whenever something dies or molted it would go as far back as possible to do it.
I also recently decided that I dont like coraline on the back wall and scraping is a pain with the rocks there.
Have you tried bouncing the flow off of odd areas to get it to the backside? I always like the island look with cubes.

Just my .02

well i redid my aquascape... i wont be scraping the back, opened up the front more.... when the water clears up ill post a new pic... i really like it better this way.....

I've had mine against the back glass ever since I started over 5 yrs ago. It's all about what you want, and what works for you.

Try to have a minimum of rock... Open spaces are best, too many have live rock stacked in the tanks.

I should state that I'm a minimalist.....
