Probably if building from scratch you should go ahead and use the 660nm red leds ( plus a couple blue leds ) since it's more tailored specifically for algae. That is unless you already have the T5 retro sitting around not being used. 2700k bulbs work but you are wasting some spectrum. Plus, to take advantage of a 24" bulb, unless your going to be feeding 10 cubes per day, your sized to big. Not sure what lighting options are even available for T5s less then 24" in length.
Plus need to wait and see if T5s are even applicable to the next gen.
Interesting design that octo scrubber but there I just don't see how it's bright enough. Wasting at least 90degrees of output since no reflectors.

When is the next generation coming out? I am assuming you are talking about the next gen ATS.
Plans are to be announced May 1st. There are no sneak previews that I'm aware of.

Now to figure out how I will be supplying water to the scrubber... I would prefer all one tank, but I don't have room to fit a scrubber in one tank, hence the 20 high for this. With the ATS I want it to be fed with my overflow drain, but I guess it would be better to feed with a T from the return.
Again, no need to think to much about it yet. Supposedly the new design is very easy to incorporate into virtually all types of tanks and sizes. Certainly has me intrigued.
