Been trying for over a month now to catch a blue velvet damsel out of my 250. No luck so far.

things i tried:
-netting, also in the dark = he outsmarts me by hiding in the rock all the time
-cornering = too much rocks don't work
-fish trap (bottle method) = epic fail, no fish goes near, tried starving method

Other options are:
-tank tear down
-fishing with hook
-releasing a nice big trigger into tank/ or lionfish

Any other suggestions? will be appreciated.

1. Get an ice fishing pole
2. Hook a nice piece of food on there
3. If you want a bobber to make it feel like your on a lake, well go ahead ;)
4. Plop it in the water and wait
5. When the fish hits it, set the hook as hard as you can :beerchug:

Just kidding, I would take the rock out if I wanted the fish out that bad but thats just me. Otherwise just leave it in there if he isn't that big of a problem

what i do is stand a net up so only one side is open and put food into it. just let it sit for a few days things will go in and out and you will eventually see him in there and snatch him up against the glass.

stand it up so it is paralell to the glass vertically and the handle is standing upwards. usually only takes me a few hours of waiting watching TV.

As long as it is an agressive eater. Fish traps have always worked for me
However, I always make my own out of scrap acrylic that are much larger with a larger gate than the bottle method. Usually caught in the first 15 minutes. But has taken a few days with the trap in the tank the whole time for fish to get use to it and always just feeding from the trap only. After a few days, fish are swimming in and out of it just waiting for food.

Sounds like a good time for some re-aquascaping! Honestly your gonna have to tear it apart if you want to get it out and even then in a 250 plan on swimming. Oh and have a lookout assistant to help you locate the fish from outside the tank.

Unless you can get a fish trap to work.

cut down on feeding for a few days, use a fish trap. you can make one pretty easily out of scrap acrylic, or a bottle, or buy one.

Funnest way = gun

If the bottle method isn't working, I know SWE carry's the traps with doors.

get a chopstick so you can poke him out of the rocks. it may take an hour but i bet you can get him with the net.

I would suggest a larger trap like others have mentioned.... one with enough space to make the fish feel more comfortable in it.... let it sit in the tank for a few days, magnet holding it on the side of the tank, feed only in the trap so they get used to it.... and be patient. If that doesnt work... your going to have to re-aquascape.
