Hi,

I just properly set up my tank about two weeks ago, and had a black clown like a week already in the tank. Recently added a cleaner shrimp and a firefish. It's in a 75G tank. With salinity of 1.024, Ammonia at 0 and Nitrate at 0.

So I bought Formula 2 and Flakes food, I am not having any problem to feed the firefish or the shrimp, but the black clown only eat like 1 pellet at most, and won't touch the flake. Although the clown actively looking for food. Any suggestion why?

I would try the frozen mysis... The pellet is really small, super tiny ones, the clown was able to chew it directly no problem, just that he won't take it more than one, felt like it got bored or something after the first one.
 
i fed my clowns frozen mysis and they loved it. i mixed in pellets to give them a different source of neutrients. i know id hate to eat the same exact thing every day. good luck :biggthumpup:

Hi there,

From what I read, your tank has only been set up for about 2 weeks. If this is the case, I would highly suggest not adding anymore livestock for a while. Your tank will likely be going through the Nitrogen Cycle very soon and you will see Ammonia/Nitrite/Nitrate spike in your tank. It's possible that your fish may become stressed over the next couple weeks. If you have further questions about this, feel free to PM me and I'll be happy to help further! :)

For food recommendations, I would also consider Brine Shrimp as a good supplement.

His tank was properly cycled with clean rock. We did a near hundred percent water change a couple weeks ago to remove nitrates.
 
Brine shrimp will get the clown eating, but should not be the staple of the diet. Adult brine shrimp has 0 nutritional value. I suggest mysis shrimp and soaking in Selcon and other nutritional supplements. From there, begin offering other foods like chopped whole prawn, chopped scallops, sliced clam, etc. all fresh foods as you don't want any harmful preservatives in the food.

Mix it all up with tank water, stop powerhead, and use turkey baster to squirt food near it. Keep trying daily and eventually, he'll eat it.
 
I have some TDO pellets I'll bring for you tomorrow to try too :beerchug:

My fish seem to like them more than any of the others I've tried.
 
So I decided to add another clown in my tank last week. This one is bigger is about ~2", and the old black clown ~1.5". So I tried feeding them brine shrimp, the black clown has been eating it, but maybe only for like 1-2 shrimp, the new clown ate the shrimp and spit it out for some reason. Then I went to SWE, Lee suggested me to feed them Cyclop-eeze zoo plankton, so I tried that too, the black clown seems to eat a bit, but the new clown still not eating.

Then last night I saw that the new clown has been bullying the small one, and causing him to hide in the bottom corner on other side, and now the black clown not eating, and the big clown still the same eat and spit out

To clarify, it is in 75 gallon tank, with good water parameter no nitrate, nitrite, ammo and salinity at 1.024, Temp 76F.

Any suggestions how to get them eating and getting along?
 
Have you tried any of the foods I mentioned earlier? I have never had a clown turn down Hikari mysis or the fresh food I get for my fish.

The new clown, the bigger of the two if I read correctly, is asserting its dominance over the smaller clown. This is the first stage of them pairing up. As individuals, this can be extremely violent or you may notice a shake or two from the submissive clownfish. If the smaller of the two wasn't already goin female, it should become a male once sexually mature. The larger, more dominant of the two will be the female. Let them ride out the dominance situation unless things get very bad.
 
Yes I did try the Hikari Mysis shrimp, but they don't care at all about it, that's why I went back to brine shrimp. Haven't tried the fresh food yet, but I highly doubt that they will eat it. These are really picky eaters. I wonder if its because they are so new to the tank, plus I bet the tank that they are in now are way bigger and emptier than before.
