And, so many of you have such nice setups with fancy equipment. But, here goes anyway. I like participating in all things reef hobby too so, this contest gave me the extra push to get out of my comfort zone.

This one has been wet since August, 2019 and is just starting to seem settled in. Most of the inhabitants used to reside in a dual nano setup that I traded a friend for this one.

Last week, I posted here that my husband helped me hang the floating canopy with a counter balance spring thingy (you’d have to ask him) from a garage door. That’s the latest update.

Next up:
1). cord management
2). figure out what other fish I want. It feels somewhat like naming a child. So....final.

So far, I am holding a pair of clowns for a friend and have a yellow corris wrasse, a pink spotted goby, a starry blenny and an exquisite firefish. If I ever find an established leopard wrasse, it’s on my bucket list. Other inhabitants are a pair of cleaners and a serpent star.

I went back to T5s for this tank and have been really happy with the color and coverage I am getting.

Did you end up refinishing the stand? Looks like it matches everything really well and the two tone looks really sharp.

I think it looks great! What is that in the right front corner? I want one ;)

Thanks for the compliment.

The stand was already white with some black and some pine colored trim. I reskinned the stand myself this past summer (with some help from the hubby). It had water damage from before I acquired it. I just used bead board, painted and sealed inside and out.

I didn’t want anything natural/wood looking because our whole house is log and tongue and groove. I had bought black paint but, at the last minute, decided to go white instead. The tank sits in such a dark spot in our house and is close to the kitchen where we have white cupboards. I did get to use some of my new black paint for part of the trim. :)

I tried to stick with this color scheme for the hood even though it worked out a little differently. I try not to let myself notice, though, because I do kind of want it matchy, matchy.

I think you’re asking about the green bubble coral. Sadly, I don’t dare frag this one just yet. I don’t see them around as often as I used to.

Nice up grade, that looks great. Still want to make your summer get together some year :) So no more Lower level tank? Was up at Red lake last weekend and was thinking of stopping by but I had some one with that needed to get home.

Greetings! Yep. No more lower level tank. Actually, that was the main reason for the trade. I didn’t think the other one would look as good on the main level and I was tired of hauling buckets up and down the stairs.

Do stop in again sometime! I would like to see your setup one day again, too. Maybe bring a few others. It’s so unique!

The good news is, my tank looks cleaner now with cords and controllers in their permanent place.

And, the bad news, I lost one of the clowns and the starry blenny since my last post. And, this is one of the reasons I hesitate to share publicly. Who likes to admit this kind of stuff? Sniffle.

The rest of the fish look happy and the corals do too so I am hoping the fish losses are in the past.

Will be home with a sick grandson tomorrow so I will try to do a water change, some water tests and hopefully, some extra cleaning (sump and powerhead).

I’m kind of happy with where this tank is right now. I wonder how long that will last.

Picked up a few new corals at an event here in Bemidji this weekend.

What is a good way to cover overflow boxes? (Why didn’t I tear one or both out before I set this tank up?) I have a clownfish that seems to enjoy making me “fish” him out. Actually, thought I lost him a month and a half ago but found him in the overflow yesterday. I had looked before.... Anywho, I got him out after many attempts. Today, he is right back in there. Pic is of them reuniting yesterday. F1D0394A-065D-4372-92DF-9D4A0E9FD1CF.jpeg

Update: I blocked the unused plumbing holes in the overflow. I’m hoping that is where he got in and I won’t have to worry about covering the whole overflow.

I got a cover from eBay and used a 20oz bottle top to plug the hole by the teeth that was for the return line (I plumbed my return to come in on the other side of the tank.).

I just try to make the rescue as traumatic as possible (teasing, it's by accident) and hope they remember. So far it's actually working.

I did use egg create for awhile or you can custom cut an acrylic grate and bend it to match the overflow curve by heating in the oven.

There's a thread here asking for and about MN fish stores. What's up that way for u guys to browze in? https://www.tcmas.org/forums/threads/featured-mn-tanks.70239/

This is a request for feature tanks, isn’t it? I’m not that bold.

We have one small LFS up here and he’s a nice guy and has some stuff we might need but doesn’t specialize in saltwater. We rely on expos, online orders, have our own small but good! :) events and travel to get our dry/live goods. Midwest Aquariums in Fargo if we go that direction or the same places you all would hit down there if we head south. Though, I have not yet been to Reef Collective.

My fix is temporary but it seems to be working. I just cut a plastic container lid into adequate shapes. It’s even black so looks OK for now.

I feel my height deprivation in full force when chasing a fish around in the deep overflow box. Geesh!
