BlindSwordsman's 3 Tank System (1 Viewer)

You've got such an artistic eye, it would be amazing I'm sure. I feel like it might require you to actually test your water once in a while and potentially even dose some stuff. :)
Don’t speak such blasphemy to Ken. Testing? Come on man 😇

Urghh! I know! I think I'm allergic to the 't' word!!! 😅

I was wondering, if you put 3-5 polyps of Zoas on those 3” discs….how long would it take to fill the tile.

Look cool to have a bunch grown out. I have bare bottom so would add some awesome color and texture

People sometimes asked me this sort of question before. It's hard to tell! I usually tell them it takes longer if they keep sitting there staring at it 😄. But, last year, when I grew the zoas on these discs for my Xmas giveaway thing, I put about 12+ different polyps on each 2-3" disc and it took about 5-6 months before they covered the disc.

Well, nothing is going smoothly this year for me as it seems. I have so much trouble with everything, and these tanks included. They are doing okay but not great. I used to have more luck in setting up a new tank before than these. While the chaeto for the 90 gallon tank melt again, the chaeto in these tanks are doing okay, even though I don't do anything differently. I said earlier that 'there was no red stuff', then some red stuff showed up after I used the silicone to redo the overflow boxes and the sump baffle. It's not too horrible, but it's there. The corals show some growth but they don't look exactly in terrific shape. Other unexpected things also popped up, like the flame angelfish that has been healthy in the tank suddenly developed some cloudy eye. I threw in some antibiotics and I think I'm killing the monti. I'm just going to ride this out and wait for whatever this is to settle down. Here's a full tank shot.

I'm still watching, Ken... Always watching. And everything is looking goooood.
We're in that summer stretch that makes it hard to keep our tanks off the back burner.
Glad to see your doin fine reef buddie

Well, thanks for watching! 😁 ... I do hope it'll get better by December when I have the meeting 😆.

It's been 2 months since my last update for this system. Somehow the setup for this one just can't seem to work like my usual setup. Maybe it's the way how I place the rocks in the system or that I started with all dead rocks and it might take a bit longer to settle down. There's not really red stuff, but the sand gets a bit dirty after a few days and not clean usually like my other setups. I do think it's improving though. Some things are growing fine/multiply in number like the zoas, but they also don't seem to look as happy as in my 90 gallon tank. I feel like something is off, or it's just because I feed these tanks less as I feel like they can't handle heavier bio/waste load yet. As usual, I don't really plan to do anything dramatic, and just sit and wait to see how this works out :D. Here's a quick shot of zoa frags.

Edit: Oh! I did find some of the zoas' coloration to be a bit off (e.g. whiter than usual) so I turned the lights 1 knot down. I hadn't had this kind of issue before, but I hadn't used the Nicrew lights before either, so I was thinking the lights might be too strong for the stuff. Or my water was just out of whack but ... Well, you know how I do things :p.

Hey Ken, Looking good! Do you know the name of the zoas that are pink with yellow skirts in your picture?

Thanks! .. I bought those as 'Pink Diamond' from some online store. I think there are a few ones that look similar with different names out there and I honestly don't know the difference 😁.

It's Friday and there's no dramatic news to read on here. No one with major tank issue, or fish eating fish news or such to entertain me. So, I'm cleaning my tanks and doing a weekly water change. And I thought: What the heck! I'll take a picture and update this thread :D. I made a bit of change to these frag tanks after I redid my 90 gallon display tank. I needed more space to temporarily store the stuff from the 90 gallon tank at the time, and I didn't feel like keeping 1 of these 3 tanks as a sort of 'display' tank anymore. It just appeared to me as unnecessary additional work to me at the time. So, I removed the sand and the aquascape, and converted it into more of a frag tank as well. Anyways, here's the quick full tank(s) shot. (And No, they are not for sale! :p) ... Again, I will say that they are not doing 'awesome'. Some are okay. Some are not so much. But, it's .. okay! 😁

I haven't updated this thread for a while. Nothing happened with this system really. It just goes like it goes 😁. The last thing that I did that may be worth to mention was I tried to frag my bounce mushroom because people told me I would need to frag them, because they never split on their own. So, I used some razor to cut the OG bounce into 4. The week after, they looked like they joined back 😳. So, I took out the saw and saw them into 4 separate pieces instead. They do fine. Recently, I got bored again so I cut them again. Here are the frags I made a week or 2 ago. Those are a Frankenstein and an OG bounce frags 😁.
