This first post will be edited tonight until I'm happy with it (warning)

Well let's see here a little back story to start with, back in 2012 I joined the forum and after researching and planning I started up with a 125 mixed reef tank. (http://www.tcmas.org/v4/forums/show...98&mode=linear&highlight=150+build#post585498)

After 8 months of learning via mistakes and ups and downs I broke up with my girlfriend and had to move out of my house. (Word of advice get the tank out first) I had my tank nuked by my crazy ex Before I was able to get it out of the basement and transferred over. At its peak it looked like this image.jpgnot many corals survived and none of the fish made it

As I couldn't live without a tank I decided to try out a 29 gallon biocube, that has been nothing but a frustration for me as I can't seem to get it to look how I want it to. This has pushed a bigger thank further and further up the list of things I want. Don't get me wrong the biocube is great I just feel the need for more real estate coming from the 125 I get frustrated any time I want to add a new coral and have to reskape the whole tank. Well today I went over to forest lake pets to go pick up a school of small freshwater fish for my 125 freshwater planted tank that is in my living room. Well turns out I couldn't pass up the 90 gallon tank as I kept walking past it. Before I knew it I had paid for it and loaded it in my truck lol

This is where the build will begin. My plans for the tank are going to be sps dominated but it will start off as a mixed reef until I am able to grow out or purchase some nice colonies so that it doesn't look so bare at first.

Equipment that will be run.
I already have
-mag12 return pump
-reef octopus dc 200 skimmer
-koralia powerheads (might be upgraded in the future just not to mp40s as I found them to be fairly loud when I had them on my 125
- gfo in a two little fishes reactor

Things that need to be purchased
-I will be running some sort of controlable led most likely radions unless someone talks me out of it,
-new heaters
-

I have a 55 gallon sump that I used on the 125 but I might be looking for a used sump that would fit better if anyone has one lying around

On the list of things to do first is build a stand which Might take a while so this build is not going to be rushed at all! Lights for sure will be purchased on Black Friday when hopefully everything goes on sale :)

I'll get some pictures up soon and update as I go!

You can break up with the girl, but you cannot break away from this hobby!
Welcome back.

Just make sure to set up all the stuff you want before you rope in a new GF! "Existing conditions" are non-negotiable ;)

Haha thanks! The new gf loves the tank even enjoys doing water changes and testing when I need to go away which is what allows me to go big again:)

Little update I have gotten the tank into the room, just need to build a stand and then I can start cycling some rock

Man taking the plunge on building a stand sucks lol, unfortunately I know how much work they are so I am really procrastinating. I'm hoping to buy the material this weekend and get the rough framing done on Sunday. That way all that is left is skinning the stand and eventually building a canopy maybe if I feel it is needed I've never been a fan of canopies but at the angle you look at the tank from the bedroom I feel like the lights would be directly in my eyes

Must be nice! I was ecstatic that my wife gave me a compliment on my tank the other night. I can't really complain. After all, she has let me set up a 200g tank.

Well we finnaly bit the bullet with the expo coming up I wanna get this thing cycling incase I find anything I can't pass up on that way it only has to sit in the biocube for a few weeks

Here is what I have so far, I put two coats of stain on it and still need to seal it but forgot to take pictures of that before locking up the shop ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416192432.198262.jpg

The front will be built at a later time as my plan is for it to be able to come off completely and will be held together with nuts and bolts going through the stand that way if I ever wanna do anything with the sump or work on it I can easily get the whole thing out or off.

I'm going to have a pair of onyx clowns, hopefully chad will be able to source me a decent sized breeding pair. a kole tang and convict tang , and a male leopard wrasse. I will be taking the starry blenny and high fin banded goby out of the biocube and putting them in the tank as well. I will be buying the tangs small and will rehome or upgrade if needed.

Those will be placed over about 6 months hopefully but I would really like some kind of red or yellow schooling fish in there as well so if anyone has any suggestions that would be great. I have Always liked the flame Angels but had one in my last tank and it did a number on my Sps even though It didn't touch any in the tank it was in before

Good start! What are your future fish stocking plans?

Thanks, do you still have the light for sale or is that long gone? I might just look for something temporary as it doesn't look like I will have the funds to buy two radions at the same time over Black Friday

Yeah the tek went fairly quick. Would have been a good temporary light for you!

Darn, yea that would have been a good buy on my part!

Little update of the biocube for now I picked up a new coral today since I was working right next to a fish store :/ that was a rough day thinking about going there after work all day

It is all closed up for now since it just got acclimated and dipped ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416361784.448798.jpg I am not very sure what it is I think it is an elegance coral but with the deal I got on it and what it looks like open it was an impulse buy so hopefully one of you can confirm

I'll post another picture when it opens up to help

Yep. Elegance. If it's Indo they usually don't have very good success. If you can make to about the 6month mark then it will probably make it long term. No one really knows why the indo ones are so difficult maybe from the holding tanks they are put in, shipping practices, or even what. Aussie ones usually are more expensive and is a selling point so if they don't mention aussie then it's probably indo.

Awesome that's what I thought it was thank you for confirming. None of the employees knew what it was other than Lps so I took that and the fact that it had been there for over 5 months to my advantage and asked them if they would sell it for 50% off which they did I ended up paying about 90$ for a coral they had marked as 175 Hopefully in a month I realize that it is Aussie and I don't end up with a dead coral

Well tank and stand are at my house! I think it looks great at some time when I'm comfortable with the sump operation to be able to put a front on I will Im just afraid that if I do now it will be out of sight out of mind so no front until then ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416777828.694907.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1416777872.261452.jpg

And then for the question part of my post.

Has anyone drilled a third hole for a return in a reef ready marineland perfecto tank before? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416777924.711466.jpg I'm thinking there but I'm not sure if that would take away too much from the stability of the glass?

The rule of thumb is at least same diameter between each hole. Are you sure you can even get a bulkhead w/ flange in the corner without the rim getting in the way ? I personally would just go over the top for a return.

I have always went over the top in the past as well but this tank stand that I built is not designed for that as it sits tight against the wall I do have an overhang that I could drill to put a 1" pipe if I needed too

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416784679.183755.jpg

but was thinking if I went like this it would be cleaner ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416784655.666954.jpg

Little update though I put the first coat of paint on the back girlfriend convinced me to go Aqua which I was interested in doing last time as well so I decided to give it a shot ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416784744.735194.jpg

And the elegance has finnaly decided to start opening up a bit more than it has since I got it ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416784776.083835.jpg

I also plan on running the whole system in 1" even though they supplied a 1.5" drain does anyone see any issues with that?

Those sure don't look like 1.5" bulkheads, they would be 2.5" in diameter raw holes for 1.5" drains. 1" assuming going with the herbie, wide open you will get about 800gph out of it, Mag12 unless your planning to T off for carbon/gfo reactors or something is overfkill and will likely have to restrict it some.
