Well here we are, about 10 months after I sold off my 110 gallon Oceanic setup and I'm feeling a little unsettled. I took it down with the intent to take a short break(about 4 months) from the hobby and start off with a fresh start in the spring with something in the 40 breeder area. As some of you know, the break didn't last that long because the first week in December I ordered a 60 gallon cube and within two months it was up and running. Now about 7 months later I am happy with the results of the new 60 cube, but I miss the larger tank. That is all about to change.

After several days of milling it over I finally came up with a decision and ordered my new 120 Fat Boy today. It will be a few weeks before the tank comes home, and while I am waiting I will be constructing my custom stand.

I haven't hammered out all the details yet as far as equipment, but I know I will be doing a 40 breeder sump and probably light it with T5's. Other than that I am still working out the details.

Now comes the interesting part.....I will be keeping my 60 cube in addition to the Fat Boy. Hopefully it won't be that huge of a challenge for me, but I will try to come up with a schedule so I can maintain both at the same time.

Please stay tuned for more info as I take on this new project.

NICE! A fatboy - ohh la la and lotsa real estate to work with - and then you got the 60 as well - man!!!!!!!

I am so jealous dude!

Should be a fun project for you. Your 110 was a very nice tank.

Thanks Adam, nut sure how fast of a build this will be. Going to try to start my stand next weekend and see where it goes from there.

Sorry for the delay in updating this thead. Got started on my stand last week. Didn't take too many shots of the stand being built but here are a couple for you. Will add a few more shortly. It is all stained and will be adding a few coats of poly over the next couple of days. Tank arrives Wednesday.

Dang nabbit - I should have gotten some pics when I stopped by!!!!

The stand is gorgeous dude - very nice work

Here's a p pic of the stained stand. Those are the doors sitting on the top. There will be three of them across the front of the stand.

Stand is pretty much complete and in place, waiting for a tank. The tank arrives tomorrow. The stand just needs the inside painted and knobs put on the doors.

Finished dimensions of the stand are: 54" x 29" x 36" high. There is a 3 1/2" trim on top that the tank will drop down into. It pretty much matches the stand I built for the 60 cube, minus one door of course. And I am done building stands for my tanks.

If I ever decide to set up ANOTHER tank:
1. Try talking some sense into me,
2. get me admitted to a psych ward, and
3. I am buying a stand for it.

Got the tank up on the stand and painted the back of the tank black. Next up...paint the inside of the stand white and plumb the overflows.

I might agree with the first two; but those never work out.
I disagree with the #3; I think you did a great job on your stand.

Yeah, but it's a lot of work.

HA, I got so burnt out building my stand! In fact I've decided to take a brief hiatus before completing all the finishing touches. Its been about a week and I think I am almost ready to get back to it. Almost...

Ok, its been a couple of weeks since I posted any updates. Was out of town all last week so nothing got done then. Inside of my stand is all done being painted white, 40B sump is built and inside the stand, overflows are all plumbed and leak tested, and I have 80 lbs of special grade reef sand inside the tank. My return pump and heater are ordered and should be here by Thursday. Will probably plumb the underside on Friday while the Furnace guy installs my new furnace. Ouch, thats going to hurt my pocket book when I am trying to build this thing. I will try to get some more pics up either later tonight or tomorrow.

Ok, the 120 is finally filled and running. The salinity is stable at 1.024 and the water is heating. After Christmas I will be getting the rest of my lights and I can transfer the contents of the 60 cube into the 120. Then I can transform the 60 cube into a fish only tank.

The 60 cube fish only tank will be in a new build thread after the holidays. Stay tuned for that build thread.

Got my other Vega module this week. Hung lights over the 120 this morning. Today was also moving day. Moved the 60 gallon cube to the new 120.
