I have a 5 stage plus i bought roughly 13 years ago. i decided to install a new membrane, cabon filters, and sediment ( will install new di resin after i know its working ) my question is my gauge shows 0 psi. even with a booster pump ( it did before servicing this as well ) so im certain the filters and membrane are installed properly. wonder if i should try to replace the oem gauge? or any other things to trouble shoot? do you recommend air filled vs glycerin? assuming glycerin is just a better option? anything to look out for i know ace has a air filled 0-100 ins tock i could go repalce it with or would you just install a new inline gauge somewhere else in line? and where? it obv has pressure as water is coming out of the waste and clean water.

Also how long should i let the membrane run before using that water i was thinking 5-10 gallons of water then isntall the new di and start to use?

Thanks Everyone!

Did you hook up the flow constrictor correctly? It sounds like you don't have it connected.

If you do need a new pressure gauge, go with glycerine filled, though to be honest it doesn't make much different for indoors use.

I was going to say the same thing as @zoolan70 , check your flow restrictor. I flush my system after each use (opening the flow restrictor) and the pressure drops to nearly zero on the gauge. But with the restrictor closed it jumps up to 70-75psi with my booster pump.

With regard to how much to run, I think it's really a matter of how much DI resin you want to waste. I have an inline TDS meter coming between the RO membrane and the DI resin with a 3 way valve. I send the RO membrane output to the drain until the TDS meter reads below 5 TDS (arbitrary, but what I have been going with), then I flip the valve to send it to the DI resin. That usually takes 30-60 seconds I'd guess, but as I have my outlet plumbed directly to the drain, I'm not sure how much water that is (volume).

Feel free to attach a few pictures of your setup (with the various hose configurations visible) as that might help us in the troubleshooting.

Thank you guys for the responses!!! it turns out it was a faulty gauge i found a fitting and hooked it up to the supply line directly and it read 0 still. got a new gauge last night and back in business 50psi and 70psi with booster running. ill prob run a few gals through it to get the new membrane going then put the new di resin in and let it rip! i never flushed the old membrane ever so im going to take youre advice and start to do that after each use. the other membrane was 13 years old so i think my water quality will drastically improve now that im back on a maintenance program. :Reading

I never flush my membrane, and I just accept that I'm going to have a slightly higher usage of DI resin for those first few gallons of RO water. I try to only make water in large batches, so the tiny extra use of DI resin in pretty much inconsequential.
