Thanks I grabbed one of those today and will mix it up tonight and see how that works.

Anyone here use ozone at all? I saw bulk reef made a video on it and from what I got from the video if I were to implement it I would mainly use it like carbon to prevent coloration of the water and the fishy smell that sometimes comes with it. I would still use carbon but my hopes would be to not have to change out 2 cups of carbon every other week.

In the long run if it actually works I could see it paying for itself

I run ozone when the stuff works. Due your homework on the gear, it has a few moving parts and I've been frustrated with most approaches I've used so far. I screwed up a few times and I *think* I have it right this time (after my replacement parts come Tuesday).

Ozone does wonders for water clarity (light penetration, visual aesthetics) and is a killer on odor. Realistically you run the effluent output over carbon of some form but the replacement schedule on that is pretty flexible I think, I'm still looking for the right method to do the post carbon approach with the right carbon. Should have v4.0 this Tuesday too for carbon treatment.

I have run it for years and recently stopped , I don't think you should bother personally

After even just the little bit of research I have done it seems like running through an old skimmer doesn't seem to be very safe? So for good quality equipment that I don't have to worry about bad side effects it looks like my return on investment would not be worth it for the pure idea of not wanting to change out and buy carbon. Thank you both for the advice

It doesn't do the same thing as carbon I always ran both. I would not consider ozone a replacement for carbon

I was thinking of adding it to the system to prolong the life of my carbon so that I could change it less(hoping for same cycle as my gfo) but after just a bit of research that does not seem realistic, it will break stuff down and make it easier for the carbon to catch but it will not actually prolong the life of the carbon substantially enough to justify the start up costs and risks of running ozone.

So what is the weirdest thing anyone has found in their sump? I was doing a water change tonight and took out both of my filter socks(usually I only change one at a time) and went to start siphoning the area they go. Well it turns out that somehow a un popped bag of microwave popcorn was hiding underneath the filter sock area, now I assure you that I have no idea how this got here due to the fact that I hate the smell of popcorn and refuse to allow my fiancé to make or even have any in our house.

So my question is now this, has anyone else ever found anything weird and un explanable in their tanks?

As much as I would love to be able to blame this popcorn as the reason my sps seem to be declining I can't imagine that paper, popcorn cernals, salt or butter would cause anything other than nitrate issues which have just recently shown up on my test kits at .25 due to Marty like feeding of my 7 fish

Other than finding a Yasha Goby and Candy cane Pistol Shrimp that had been missing for months?
Nothing really; except for those damn Asian Beetles that find their way into the house during the winter and decide they want to swim, die and float.

I am still finding those stupid things in my sump, it's like they are drawn to saltwater

You found a bag of popcorn in your sump?

Yes, it was still in the plastic but the plastic was opened, I have no idea how long it was in there but it was definitely gross and looked like some of the kernels were expanded but not popped, I was going to take pictures but it smelled like sulfur so it needed to go outside in the garbage asap

I'm sure I've founder weirder but a pair of pliers is my recent best in my sump

Oh man I wish drug use was the answer but those days are in the past for me as well, I threw an extra bag of carbon in the sump and did a 20% water change and will do another one when I get back to town Sunday just for safe measures.

If I didn't have anger issues with popcorn before and I come back to a empty tank I will now, the only thing I can think of is my neighbors 3 year old who loves the fish and grabbing fruit snacks out of our cabinets somehow got a bag under the tank and then when I was grabbing something it fell through the hole in the floor and landed in the sump But even that is a stretch.

I'm convinced the misses did it in a fit of jealous rage that I wasn't paying enough attention to her and won't let her eat popcorn lol but of course she won't admit it, it just adds up.

I really need to stop posting from my iPad, I swear my grasp of the English language is somewhat better then represented here most days

Got some awesome looking sps today, hopefully my tank will take a turn for the more colorful soon!
