Calcium Reactor Media? (1 Viewer)

I’m in the process of setting up a calcium reactor for my 40g reef. Keeping mostly SPS. I’m curious to know what other club members are using for reactor media? I see lots of great feedback on the reborn media, but looks like it’s no longer available. How is ARM? Also, is there a significant difference between the performance of course vs. extra course? Thanks for the help!
 
I run reborn. Brs did a video comparing different media.

ReBorn has been available but it sells out rather quickly. It was out of stock for quite a while earlier this year and then when it was available, people bought it up quickly. Classic case of supply vs. demand.

At least I know that if it comes down to it, I can remove my substrate and go bare bottom while reclaiming the media.

Looked like there is some available right now just not at Brs
 
Well ARM is great but needs much lower pH to start melting than reborn. Reborn has been scarce but soon will be ramped up as I heard .
My most favorite was Tropic Eden Calcium reactor media but its also hardly available any more.
One of the main reasons why I moved away from CaRX .
 
Like Abhishek said, ARM is a great product but has a lower melting point, I'd add to that by saying if the CalRX pH fluctuates lower, it will start melting rapidly and turn to mush quickly.

on the flip side, Ive found Reborn to be a lot more resilient against melting into a mush. Reborn tends to have a lot more stable melting curve.

Reborn has been scarce over the past year. But im sitting on a stash. If in a pinch, i can help till supply picks up again
 
Thanks for all the feedback. I found some reborn at Marine Depot. Sounds like the size of the media is smaller than the original, but we’ll see.
 
Reborn media is the media I’d recommend. Last I heard they are working on legal documentation before being able to harvest larger pieces for the media as they switched collection points with Covid. It’s still good, it will likely melt faster due to the smaller pieces.
 
i will do 2 part before using new ARM. too low on the melting point. reborn or if you can find some old arm.
 
I’ve got an old Geo 618, which is far bigger than I need for my 40g cube. I’m planning on running it half full with reborn. Are there any potential issues running it half full?
 
i understand what you want to do, but running 1/2 full wont achieve your desired outcome.

I'd recommend running a reactor with it filled up. In my experience as a reactor's media starts melting away, and it body gets emptier, the dKH concentration of the effluent no longer stays stable. it starts jumping all around for some reason.

if i was you, i'd fill up a reactor as usual, AND i'd look at playing with these 2 variables - CalRX's internal pH and the the outgoing effluent flow rate, to achieve the dKH you want to supplement your tank with.
