Can we increase the file upload limit for attachments? I hit it all the time with images and now with a PDF I'm trying to upload.

There is a balance of convenience and disk space. Allowing bigger attachments means more disk space, cost, and time for maintenance tasks.

I am certainly open to hearing about the use case for uploading a PDF bigger than 10MB

Current limits are 10MB per attachment, 15 attachments per message and images no bigger than 4000 pixels in either dimension.

For your images, are you hitting the 10MB cap? or the dimensional cap?

iPhones take a default picture that is more than 10 MB, so I can't upload directly. I have to run them through a macro I built to shrink them, so it isn't a huge deal.

The PDF I was trying to upload was a proof, so it was protected, and I couldn't change format or shrink it. It was certainly an edge case, so probably no change is needed if there is any increase in cost to do so.

When I am on phone or iPad I select a picture that I want to add to TCMAS, I then hit OPTIONS at the bottom and it allows me to select a smaller size. Then hit Add and take a victory lap. I select the size to be Medium

Weird, my iphone pictures upload natively. I wonder what is different.

Is there any chance of getting MP4 capabilities for loading videos?
unlikely in the cards. video would DRAMATICALLY increase disk space needs as well as bandwidth needs to stream the videos to visitors. When youtube is free to upload to and host and stream your video and easy to embed on a TCMAS post, I don't see it being practical to invest in video hosting on our infrastructure.

We go from discussing a 10MB attachment size cap to many more orders of magnitude to accommodate video

I use Flickr but any image hosting service should work. I like this because it both helps relieve some stress/disk usage from the site and also provides a tank picture journal for myself (as opposed to my phones camera roll which is overrun with thousands of photos 😅)

I don't want to create a Youtube channel to load videos. I don't do any social media or image hosting services type stuff, etc. TCMAS is the extent of that type of stuff for me.

Sorry about highjacking the thread, I just happed to be trying to load a video when this thread popped up. I know better now.

@Sidgjr suggestions are always welcome, please don't feel put out.
If you don't want to create a youtube channel, you might be able to just send a video to someone else here that could upload it to theirs and post it here for you.

I’ll just add here for perspective that Reef 2 Reef is exponentially larger than our local club and doesn’t support video uploading. Most there do the same thing with Yoube uploads.

@Sidgjr if it makes you feel more comfortable using it, if you use gmail you already have a google account and adding youtube to it is no big deal. You make make any uploads private and only viewable with a link you share.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions and info. I do reluctantly have a google account, you're basically forced to in order to navigate online. I never setup the gmail. Before going on a rant on how "tech" is so intrusive, privacy compromising... I'll stop myself.:)

I hear ya on all accounts. promise.

TCMAS just does not have the resources (more than just $$$ mind you) to do video hosting poorly, let alone well.
