Cheezy's Eurobraced 210g SC aquariums (1 Viewer)

Update time. The corals are really coloring up! A few of the maricultured pieces are still brown, but it seems that they tend not to flourish until the 6 month mark IME.

Growth has been decent. still dosing around 60 mL/ day of each of the 2-part. I am looking at redesigning my ATS as the water flow on the screen has been inconsistent lately, resulting in spotty growth. I also dialed back a bit on the 20k white channel of the Orpheks. I am getting a bit more film algae on rocks and glass than I would like. I'm sure part of this is due to the performance of the ATS, but even when it was running well, there was this propensity.

Still trying to perfect my photo skills. Some of the photos look like I jacked the saturation to the max (weird color smear), but this is not the case.

Love that stellata, nice corals!

Thanks for the kind words. Did you ever track down a stellata frag?

Unfortunately Tim couldn't make it to the swap and I don't really get the opportunity to drive out that way. I know I can get a frag from battle corals...but I'd rather get it locally. ;)

Maybe if you remind me next time we are going to be at the same meeting, I will break a nub off for you

Toy time!!!
Based on the graphs that Jon has tormented me with, I'm sure you'll appreciate the stability you're able to achieve with this toy.

Just a quick tank question. I'm looking at SCA tanks, and other than the initial shock, do you have any complaints?

Thanks

None. And since they have had more time to refine designs and offer more custom designs, I'm sure they will be even better. I know they had been having problems with an external cabinet make but not sure if that has been resolved.

Thanks, I won't need a cabinet as I'll be making my own stand. Great tank, thanks!

Interesting thing happened last night. When I was looking a my coral, it looked like I was getting some distinct growth tips. Lo and behold my dkh had dropped all the way down to 6.5. My dosing and dkh has been constant for the last 4 months. The consistency let me be lazy otherwise I would have caught this sooner. It had been 2 weeks since I had tested. I did increase my T5 time by an hour around, which I will assume was the major contributor to this. My KHG can't come soon enough!

I was able to snag a bottle of Tunze CareBacter at MACNA. I did a first dose on 8-29. The jury is still out on its efficacy, just like any other "probiotic." I will try to keep a better log of my progress.

My last round of pictures weren't very good, so I don't have any new eye candy.

What is the ETA on the KHG?

When things improve, it will be hard to tell if it is the probiotic having an impact or just the corals thanking you for fixing the alk.

The KHG is supposed to get to the merchant on 9/11, so hopefully I get it by the weekend of 9/15.

Fair point. That is the sticky wicket with most things in this hobby, especially anything to do with microflora. We really don't have good hobby grade tools to monitor shifts in microbial populations.

My KHG showed up early, so I spent yesterday trying to set it up. As I was putting it together, my spidey senses were going off. I the pH probe had an epoxy body and had a small crack in it. One of the hoses already had the micron filter on it. Finally, I noticed that the hoses for the bicarb were missing.
It turns out that I got sent the KHG Monitor, and I suspect it was one that was being trialed at CV. The vendor seemed quite shocked as they aren't able to buy them yet. Looks like I was one of the first to try one out. I wish the pH probe wouldn't have been faulty, so I could have really put it through its paces. Here is photo evidence, just in case you doubt me ;)IMG_20170910_152123.jpg

Wow - looks like the monitor version is half the cost of the controller version! Much easier to justify at that price. Are they giving you a big refund?

pH probes are pretty standard. I would be very surprised if the pH probe from your Apex would not work on the KHG.

They are sending the controller version out direct from Coralvue and want the monitor back. I completely agree on the price. I had thought about just asking a refund of the difference, and the pH probe. I'm sure there is a way to write a code that goes to a DOS that if kH is X then add Y mL of carbonate. I thought about it more, and realized that I'm lazy when it comes to things like that. I would have to wait for someone else to do it and adapt it for me. Since they aren't out yet, it might be a while. They are going to give me a store credit for my trouble, so I'm OK with the hassle.

I was thinking about that as well. Sometimes those gel filled probes have slower response times and can be less precise...at least at the hobbiest cost level. I may just try it anyway ;)

When are you planning on DIYing a monitor? The hardest part from my perspective is the learning curve with the programming, which I'm sure you have covered.

I started working on a DIY auto-titrator this spring. :) If all goes well it will be able to test Alk, CA and MG.

The tank certainly is appreciating the dKH stability. My overall dosing is up about 30% and haven't had any mysterious STN/RTN events. I might even have a few frags available at the swap.
I had a scary moment a few weeks ago with the Trevally. I was trying to set some super glue on a frag. I large chunk of fresh glue sloughed off and within a second the he ate it. Based on how large it was, I thought for sure he was a goner. I haven't seen any loss in appetite, distention, or weight loss. Seems like at least for the immediate future he is OK. I lost my naso tang a while back, I suspect, due in part to him ripping his mouth open with glue.
My next project is to work on the port forwarding for the KHG. It's nice to have the AIM to send a signal to Apex fusion, however if there is an error (like an air bubble) I will continue to get an error value on the apex screen until I reset it through the KHG software.

Crappy cell phone FTS from earlier this month.
