Seriously though, you could probably take something like a damsel or chromis and with a few clicks make me think that it's the prettiest fish on the market.

He should have a chromis in there, so you can expect to see that photo soon.

Tank survive the vacation? Such as this hobby is a cluster f and nothing makes sense. Mine looked the best it ever has in a long time when I got back.

Yeah, surprisingly well. The auto top off reservoir lasted the whole trip almost to the hour. On our way home I got an alert that my tank temperature was falling, which meant that the heaters were partially out of the water. I just turned off the skimmer and let the water from the chamber backfill into the sump which bought me enough time.

The auto feeder fed a couple of times a day, and I tuned the skimmer to the dry side so it wouldn't overflow. I've come back to a better tank and a worse tank in the past. This time it was pretty much the same. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Every spring for a couple of weeks, sunlight passes through the front window and hits the tank on sunny mornings. It only lasts about 20 minutes, but provides a unique view of things and the fish seem to enjoy it. I wish there were a way to have the Radions mimic this with a sunrise mode, but I don't think they can reproduce these nice gold tones.

I get the same effect; but in the evenings.
I really like the contrast in the pelvic fin and that black eye is almost creepy; sinister!

To mimic the effect could you use a remote light box with mercury vapor lamps?
Or just build a strong fire in the corner of the room. (Think outside of the box.)

Chris, I would like to ask you if there was any improvement on the flow with the addition of the gyre to the 2 MP40's? Can you manage to get an alternating flow pattern?
I am struggling to get a good flow and have a similar rock placement as yours.
TIA.

There was definitely an increase in flow, and more in between the rocks. I found though that the Gyre mounted sideways didn't do well in my case because when the flow mass hit the first edge of the aquarium, it would scatter and throw sand. When I swapped for Quiet Drives, I was able to increase flow overall and pulled out the Gyre. There is still somewhat low flow in between the two rocks; which limits my coral selection for those areas.

Christopher, I am on the edge to start having some anthias and would like to ask if you have some kind of procedure to quarantine and train-feed your fish before adding them to the display tank.
I see on the videos that they eat pellet food.
It would be great to know a proved working-method and get them prepared during quarantine.
TIA

Hey, this article contains my current thoughts on best practices for acclimation. It's a little broad, so when you decide on a species drop me a line if you want to talk specifics :)

Be jealous of my new sump.

So instead of going to Marty's meeting a couple of weekends ago, I spent the day cleaning up water from the floor and basement. From what I could tell, I forgot to refill the auto top off reservoir, which dropped the water level in the main chamber. One of the heaters was slightly above the return pump inlet and must have been touching the glass of the rear panel of the sump, which caused a fracture. It wasn't a lot of water, but I did have to run out and get a small aquarium to tide me over. I'm shopping for a new sump; I'll probably switch from the ELOS sump, maybe to something in orange.

Overall I've been pretty lax with my maintenance and distracted by the frag tank build, which is probably part of why I forgot to refill. The excitement of the new build has made me realize that after 3.5 years I'm a little bored with this system, and I'm considering doing some re-aquascaping and making a few livestock goal changes just to keep things compelling. For now though, just getting the sump area back up to par is my immediate aspiration.
