I know! Their last Black Friday sale was so good I finally couldn't resist getting myself an RODI unit. During the Christmas break I'll finally get it hooked up.

The new Anthias look great. How are the Evansi progressing if they couldn't go up to the display with the Dispars?

The bicolor definitely had to go; those things will eat while they're in the Live Aquaria bags. The dispar were doing really well too after a few days.

The Evansi will need a lot more time. They remind me a lot of purple queens in that they need a lot of time to sample things and work their way up to normal sized foods. They're all eating, but they would go hungry in the display with how fast food disappears there.
 
nice tank love the aquascape! i love tropic eden reef flakes. thats what i have too and its my favorite substrate for sure. if doesnt blow around like the fuji would with high flow.
 
After 8 years I finally upgraded my camera body. I tested it out a little this afternoon and it will take some getting used to, and I think I'll finally be able to get a decent photo or two. The autofocus, ISO performance, and frame rate are much better and should allow for some interesting fish shots. Dynamic range is much better too, which will help with full tank photos. Not exactly tank-build related, but since we just crossed 300 photos in this thread, it's kind of relevant. It will be fun to see what it can do.

I'm also trying to introduce an acclimation box for fish coming out of quarantine. So far, it's been a good addition; the first fish (P. evansi) seems at home and the residents have gotten over their posturing and curiosity over the last couple of days.

Testing things out up close to see what it can do. Literally got nothing else done on tank projects today.

Cooper's Anthias. They have some really cool reds and oranges in the eye.




Caudal fin flare on the basslet.




Leopard wrasse. She has finally started making a transition to male.

Great photos as always! I just purchased an acclimation box for my newest addition as well and will always introduce fish this way from now on. Worked great for me.

Just tonight I mentioned that I might add a female or two for my M. bipartitus. Any plans of adding more leopards to your tank as your wrasse completes its transition?

Looks like your camera really does well with yellows. (Translates to: more anthias pics!)
I saw a nice looking trio of Squarespot females this weekend in Green Bay; the brightest yellow with orange stripes I've seen in a long time.

I just let him out this morning and he spent the day swimming next to the acclimation box, so it's clearly his safe place. We caught Austin LeFevre's talk out at MACNA and it convinced me that I was being lazy by skipping social acclimation.

I've considered adding a female meleagris since the change started, but the Powder Blue gives chase to my current one pretty regularly and I worry that she wouldn't be able to take the aggression. His chasing is what lead to the loss of my Rhomboid, and he's officially been diagnosed with a wrasse-chasing fetish.

Squarespot are on the ever-shrinking list of anthias I haven't kept. Only so much room, especially for the larger species. If you pick them up, I'll be really interested to hear what you think.
 
That evansi sure does look purdy. Almost pulled the trigger on 4 of them.

They are cool and the yellow is really bold. My Carberryi used to have a very similar yellow stripe as they mimic Evansi in certain locations, but they gradually lost it over the years. The small ones are a total pain; if you have an opportunity to get larger specimens go that route :mad:

 
Judging by your new series of photos, I assume your new tank makeover involved removing all corals and rocks; leaving just fish only! ;)

Rocks just take up fish space.

Still have the original rock, but the new sand bed is in place and I'm letting bacteria colonize and things stabilize before I take the next step. I'm planning on doing the sump area next and finishing with moving all the coral out and getting new rock work in.

Anecdotal, but I received a small one of them by mistake last year and it never ate a thing. The only thing keeping the remaining two small females going in quarantine is the brine shrimp hatchery, but the larger one took to frozen after about a week. Smaller anthias can wither away pretty quickly, and it's just a tough combination.
 
Removing a few coral from the rock work this weekend, including the anemone. I decided to keep him in the acclimation box since he would just cause trouble in the frag tank. The clownfish has never shown any interest in the anemone over the years. I figured I would catch him and toss him in the box to see if I could coax out some interaction. After about 24 hours, he got it figured out and now they're inseparable.

Still working through the sump redesign. I decided to run things with silicon hoses for a few weeks to see how it works before I hard plumb everything and get stuck with something that I'd like to change. It's nice to have that "temporary" Petco sump out of there. I've started thinking through ideas for the new aqua scape. My main goal is to increase the overall surface area of rock, but not add anything to the total rock volume. There's a lot of space taken up with my current aqua scape that just isn't utilized. The anthias associate most often around the steep rock face on the right bommie, and I'd like to create more of that habitat as well.

This has me leaning toward a three island pillar layout. Since the sand bed is now more shallow, my old PVC method isn't going to cut it, so I rigged up some bases out of ½" acrylic. Just need to order up some Pukani and start trying things out.
