Wife made a job change. The hours and job she did have where killing her (literally)

She is however more than able to stand in my place at the shop while I am out doing maintenance and other projects.

Soo..... If you had a blank hours board to post in my window. What would YOU put on it?

(sorry Ray, OPEN 24 HOURS is not a option.. yet)

Clint,
I think you know best when you see most traffic in your store and could judge best but here are my shopping habits.

During the week I usually like to go after 5PM when we had dinner. I even go a lot out for shopping until 9PM.
On weekends I don't go shopping very late and prefer to start my shopping day around 10AM and be done in the late afternoon. I see most LFS open only at 11 and maybe 10AM would be great.

I only have time during the weekends to come visit you :( When I was over on Saturday evening, I mentioned you should be open on Sunday. Many people also get out of work early on Friday, so being open a few hours earlier on Friday would be great!

Sunday 11am-5pm
All other days 11am - 7pm

Take a few applications; I'm sure a few people on the list would love to work in your store when you aren't available!

Having owned retail, I have found that being open M -F before 2 pm was basically not cost effective. Minimal traffic at best. But it was good time do paperwork, organize, order supplies, etc. I noticed a huge decrease in traffic after 8 pm. Weekends seemed to really pick up in the afternoon. I personally wouldn't be open on Sundays so you can have some quality family time. Just my experiance and opinion.

I agree, any time before 2 is a waste. I am thinking 2-8 W-F 12-6 sat 12-4 sun. closed Mon-Tue.

While I have to keep my family in mind, the customers of the shop pay my bills.

This is is true, but with taking Mon and Tues off, you can have time with them then, especially in the summer when school is out. You can always tweak your hours a little more as time goes by and you get a better sense of your customer base and what works best. And I'm sure most of your customers will adapt to your hours quite easily. I wish the best of success to you.

Personally I have had to go to other stores for alot of stuff during the day lets say around noon at the earliest. The times i have gone there has been at least one other customer in the store when i got there. I like to get my stuff and get home before traffic. After 5 on weekdays and weekends are usually filled for family and recreation time.

I personally commend for being closed on Sundays. Those that want to shop on weekends should be able to make time on Saturdays.........IMO.........I understand you can't please everyone though.

Like others have said, you may need to adjust depending on how things go.

When i worked at a LFS we were always busy both Sat and Sun. Mondays and Tuesdays seemed slow. Maybe because people probably already blew their fish $$$ over the weekend!

These hours seem fine, but I would probably go 3-8 T-W because that's closer to the time people are out and about picking up their kids, thus more likely to come in than at 2, and being open for 5 hours seems like a pretty good comprise, I think Friday and Saturday you should extend your hours a bit because a good amount of people work half day Fridays, and would be more likely to come out, especially later in the evening. I think being open later on on Saturday would also be beneficial. and not being open Sun just seems natural. Monday...I could go either way.

personally, the times I would usually come in are around six or seven on the weekdays, and 2-3 on the weekends, (Friday-Sun) But then, I'm not a big spender (as my budget dictates) so take my post with a grain of salt.;)

Ok.. These are not set in stone (wife is still working out some details in her day)

W-F 3-8 Sat 12-7 Sun 2-6

I still have my day job and lately someone lit a fire under their butts and I have been up to my eyeballs in work. As much as I'd rather not work Sunday's I already am. I worked 12 hours today, only 1 of them was fish related though (delivering a tank).
