Convince me to buy an Apex Controller. (1 Viewer)

The email and text alerts alone will save you $ at some point! I was just thinking about miking the switch to Apex when the temp probe on my DA RKL malfunctioned and cooked my tank :( Needless to say I upgraded to Apex that weekend. I love being able to control everything from my phone and program from anywhere. I am also setting up an AWC system using the APEX DOS. I originally had some master flex pumps I was going to use but found the DOS was actually cheaper since I didn't need the extra power bar! I am super impressed with the support on the Apex forms as well. DA was terrible support wise. Every once and a while I would get decent support but Apex I usually have a response in minutes if I can't already find the answer.

If I used all the extra's that the Apex can manage for you - it is the shizzle - but I don't - so I am actively looking for an ACIII with an DC8- find one and I will strike ya a deal for my Apex dude

Hey Angie... I don't have the ACIII, but I DO have an ACJr with the DC8... if you can live with the ACJr and DC8 let me know. I will be replacing it with an APEX on my tank in March (moving to Big Lake at end of March).

To the OP... the reason to get an apex is customization and (nearly) endless controlling possibilities. Mine isn't hooked up yet, but I've made the leap and purchased an Apex myself... now just waiting to finally move to get it up and running.

Jason- That's easy! You want to switch over to an Apex so you can be part of the Apex sharing thread :p

Convince you ?

ReefKeeper is for girls. That should be good enough right there !

Seriously though, the web capability has been mature for many years. That's the #1 in my book. Even the ACIII that's nearly 8years old has solid internet capabilities.

I too would get Apex for the 120 and move the ReefKeeper to the small tank. Apex Jr. has all abilities, fusion enabled, compatable with all the modules ( just not backwards capatable with AC3 ) the larger brothers have but are limited to 4 add ons so I bet for most people that is enough. Now if you want to do auto water changes, float switches out a whazoo etc. 4 probably won't be enough.

+1

I hate the danged things. Good for temp and maybe dosing, after that, pfft. The net module is ok, but really does suck compared to Apex/ac3 reliability.

Now, considering your (JLanger) tank looks like a beach (has sand) and that is where the ladies like to hang out, maybe the Reefkeeper is right for you...

Yeah, given the differences in capabilities, the controller market is probably about to become a monopoly. I have an aquatronica that is nice for some things (lets you run multiple ph probes more cheaply than buying another Apex PM1) but unless you need 5 ph probes I can't see buying anything other than an apex right now. When they get to the point that fusion will email you if it loses touch with the controller it will be almost perfect.

it already does that. If you pull the ethernet cable to the apex or my power goes out, you get alerts via SMS and/or email

It doesn't seem to on mine. I get other emails from fusion (water on floor, etc). Anything I need to set to get it to do it?

interesting....i thought it was stock, built-in to fusion. I didn't do anything special when setting up my new controller.
I think the threshold is 5 minutes of being offline before the alert is sent. Another alert is then sent once a connection is reestablished with the apex.

oh, and to stay on topic: Jason, do it.

I'm currently in the buying/designing process of my 180 gallon build. I've said this many times and seem to get laughed at every time - "I want to do this right the first time" so I've planned to get the apex gold unit. I still am unsure of the level of automation I'm going to implement, but I don't want to short change myself. With that all being said;

Is there anyone that would be willing to show me their set up with an apex, the more automated the better. I.E. Dosing, ato, auto water changing, ozone, reactors, and/or all the stuff I don't know about but should?

I know it's a lot to ask, but I'm determined to have a system that works as smooth as possible.<br>Willing to trade help for knowledge, so if there's a need for an extra hand at all I'd be more than willing to help repay the favor.

Check this thread - just need to be added to others via Fusion and you can review all the set ups you want
