Cooking Rock This Week (1 Viewer)

How do you get full blown live rock in a week?? I will be doing an acid bath in a couple weeks.

Seed it with live copepods, amphipods and tigger pods as well as live bacteria. Can get live pods from various sources and prodibio has a good bacteria product with bacteria food.

Don't mistake having live, liverock as a replacment for your tanks chemical cycle. If your starting fresh you will have a short cycle, and if your just doing part of the tanks rock you may have a mini cycle.

Mini cycles are easily contained and controlled with water changes.

What do you mean by "full blown"? As Jäger stated once you have the clean rock in your tank you seed it to start things growing on the rock, but it takes longer then a week for dead rock to become live rock.

I'm not sure...I was quoting Jager. I probably wouldn't know what full blown rock was if it fell from the sky and hit me in the head.

Really what makes live rock, live? The critters that live in it and the bacteria sustained in it. So when you put the pods in there, thousands of them and spread them out, and use a good bacteria seed. There isn't the long sustained wait for you to wait for them to grow, reproduce and occupy that you would have if you tried to seed 100+ pounds of rock with a few chunks of established rock or sand or whathaveyou.

It will take longer to establish brittles, mini snails, fan worms, and coraline... some of which we are fine without some don't do much other than look cool. You don't need it all to have living critters and bacteria producing a biological filtration.

If you have it all, id promote that to top quality mature live rock.

But like previously mentioned, there is still a chemical cycle that happens to finalize the establishment of the ecosystem.
