Crazy Macro Algae (1 Viewer)

Its not the raising mag exactly. Its more the using Kent Tech M specifically. The current thought is that there is some sort of biproduct or something else in it that actually affects it.

When I did it, the stuff almost turned blue and wilted away.

how long did you use it?

I tested my Mag over the weekend, it was at 1280

I haven't tried the tech M myself, but we have so many people coming in with success stories. I know I would try it if I was in your shoes right now.

Thanks for the advice.

Whats too high for Mag? Since I tested it on Sat, 1280- seems high already

I stopped testing after mine was above 1500. Just kept adding TechM until all the bryopsis melted away.

Seriously? I would think that too much of a good thing is bad! lol

I guess it can't get any worse to be honest, it is choking out most of my corals, even when I pick it every other day. Also the light change has had a pretty adverse affect and most of the corals are bleaching, so they are being really bothered by the algea

TBH I don't believe there is a high end for dosing to eliminate bryopsis. I have seen reports of levels well above 2000ppm 'just to be sure' it would work. Also note that *THE* most dangerous part of raising your magnesium to these levels is the RATE at which you increase the ppm. I don't believe you should exceed 50 to 100ppm increase in Mg per day or you will see adverse reactions from inverts and corals.

This is awesome news. I can't believe I didn't know this, I love that I am always learning in this hobby!

Kent Tech M says to dose 2 capfuls every week per 50g of water, this says it should raise it by like 18ppm or something, so i definitely have some experimenting to do.

try seasoning it with some magnesium, might make it more appetizing

ok so the issue has gotten progressively worse instead of better.
Not only am I dosing the mag, but i am doing water changes and removing as much as I can from the rock and my corals.
but it grows back twice as bad in the same place!
I am getting ready to scrap everything in throw in the towel, with my wedding coming up in 2 wks i have enough crap to deal with.
