Deltec Skimmers (1 Viewer)

Only Deltec I had was the HOB version. It worked great but had to do a lot of tweeking to keep it tuned in. The Octo extreme I currently have didnt take any tweeking to get it running. I put it in the sump turnmed it on, adjusted the out flow so the level in the chamber was where they recommedned and it started pulling gunk out on day one.

I'm done with the mesh mods myself, we will keep providing them, and ya the air pull the mod does is awesome... but not worth the hassle IMO. those Italian pumps do just fine with the needle wheels and don't get stuck in that configuration :beerchug:

Gunk is relative, we need quanitative numbers to verify efficiency, this is complicated chemistry and needs full data to verify results. You can talk about Bubble King skimmers all day long but if you dont have any data its all just heresay....

i dont think anyone have taking the skimmate and compare them yet, i think the same size skimmer(body) BK will kick almost all skimmers' @sses. the laguna pump + BK housing or Custom housing(ATB or SWC) pulls more air and water than any other pumps on the market now, plus the BK skimmers are well built & use quality materials.
i tested almost every skimmers(needle wheel style or cone shape) available on the market.(i havent try out the KZ brand yet, because they still using becketts, I wasnt a big fan of that.)
i just got a RD pump yesterday.(laguna 1500 base) dead silence, my air meter can only measure up to 50 SCFH, so i cant tell how much it actually pulls.(it will take 2 sicce with pinwheel to do that) using 39 watt. it's great pump, but also comes with a huge price tag.
of course, good skimmer, not just can pull air and water, it need to have a good size body and neck to go with that.
it comes down to how much you want to spend on a skimmer.
octopus = best bang for the buck, good performance.
WM/KZ/CC = betweent the octopus and BK as far as quality and price goes, little bit better on performance, also more $$$.
BK/delta = better quality, i think it will perform better, less monkey around to get it to work, but more $$$, a lot more $$$.

have no idea about bk, but i used a Deltec apf600 on my 150 for 2 years and never had to do anything to it and it worked perfect the whole time. now i switched to a h and s 3xfs200 for the bigger tank and i don't think you could pay me to switch. German engineers are the best in the world. It requires no tinkering and clean the head out once a week.

i am interested to see what aquabee pump pulls, i have a extra air meter i can borrow out see if anyone willing to test what they pull.

yeah, it's at the store. you can borrow it anytime.

This is very difficult to do in reality, as you point out.... But even the numbers are misleading, ie, lph of air intake, etc. There is so much to be said about overall design of the body, (if its a needlewheel) the bubble plate design, even how the pumps inject into the body/bubble plate. One thing that is lost with NW designs is throughput, which I think is a big deal....

I'd say that not all BKs are the cat's meow. Many of them are though. I've never owned a Deltec, but they are very good skimmers, I'd say on par with BKs.

I still think one of the best designs is the downdraft, its not perfect in that they need pressure rated, beefy pumps, but with the throughput, and a tall tube with bioballs that breakup the stream of water, the contact time is second to none.

Im with you Mn Crazy Reefer:beerchug:
Ive tried a zillion skimmers and the Del Tek stand alones are still my favorite, for day in day out consistency, ease of service, and lack of adjustments. Germans are rumored to clean thier skimmers daily so apparently thats where they got the idea to make it EZ. Nothing worse than a skimmer with 15 1/4x 20 nylon nuts to unscrew...now where is that rusty allen wrench when you need it?

Not a fan of the downdraft Matt. When my corals used to spawn my ETS would go so insane it would fill a 5 bucket (collection cup overflow) and make a really BIG puddle as well.
