DI resin (1 Viewer)

Yup I wouldn’t have thought it was but photos on BRS kept showing the rubber ring on top and the fill cap on bottom. Now that I think about it it makes sense I always thought the fill end would be on top 😖

My DI cartridge's actually have "this end up" on them along with a arrow pointing up. Glad you got it figured out.

Ok now you’ve got me wondering because the rubber ring is supposed to go on top and the screw “top” goes in the bottom so water flows around the cartridge and then up through it and to the next cylinder, unless you have your DI canisters installed backwards! We needs pics to put this to rest!

So the fill cap in the first photo is on top so I just assumed that is how it went into the DI chamber. The rubber gasket shown in photo 2 actually goes on top so the water can flow up from the bottom. I made a bad assumption and have been running them upside down for years which explains why they never changed colors. I got away with 1-3 TDS from years thinking it was probably good enough only starting to look into my RO system after TDS was at 5 and I couldn’t get it lower. It’s at zero now and now I know it was human error not bad filters. Nice thing is I have replaced the membrane and all the filters so should be good to go for a while. image.jpg

Oh ok I’m dumb and misread your post sorry. I thought you had them in right and put them in backwards now.

No I’m dumb 🤪 I’ll soon see what running 0 TDS does. Has to be better than 1-5 I checked phosphate in my RO and was seeing .03 or so and now 0. I’ll have to see how much resin I use now that it’s actually being used

You can see the "up" arrow in the 2nd photo.
Yup you sure can if you are looking for it too late for me now. I know I’ll never put them upside down again and hopefully anyone who reads this thread will see my silly mistake. I’m just glad I didn’t by new DI chambers because that was my next move.

This explains why your tanks looked great when I visited, probably still had the DI installed from the factory 😂

I had to sit and think for a second too.
I think I'm good.
Glad you found something. It can make a difference.

Well after running about 100 gallons through my updated and properly functioning RODI system I am still at 0 TDS and the resin is actually changing color. Looks like about 1/4th of the first canister has turned tan in color. I assume I can deplete the first one and switch the second one to the first chamber and put new resin into the depleted one and install it on the second chamber. Is there any benefit to running two DI chambers? Maybe I should just take the second one off line since it looks like the first chamber does all the work. I suppose running two would allow you to go a longer period of time before having to replace the resin.

The second one is for redundancy so yeah after you exhaust 1/2-3/4 of the first one, swap the #2 into #1 spot and replace #2.

FWIW I used a lot of DI until I switched to the Pro DI triple thing. Now it takes a year for the anoin one to exhaust and I’ve never had to replace the cation or the mixed bed final one. WAY cheaper after the initial investment.
