Looking at a used 180g setup, and was thinking for piece of mine it might be worth paying to have it professionally resealed? does anyone know who would take on a job like this? thanks!

I was hoping to find someone with a good reputation on the site. lots riding on the seals. I was thinking a custom tank shop maybe? hopefully a sponsor or somebody pipes up.

Someone will say something, but the threads tend to get quieter in summer. My hubby checked my new tank and redid a seal, if u feel confident check utube for tips.

If there is no bubbling in the silicone, and the tank holds water don't worry about it. there Is a very good chance the reseal could leak.

Im worried about the unknown age of this potential tank... Blowing out a seal is my biggest fear...

To reseal a 180 gallon properly is ALOT of work and time, and no guarantee that it wont leak after your done. Personally IMO if your concerned about the tank leaking in the first place I would keep looking for a different used tank or buy new. JMO.

Well, im not saying im super concerned, i just hate to trust an unknown age/how it was kept. that goes with any used tank i spose. is resealing that much worse then new? from what iv read online on resealing, cost of used plus reseal is still way cheaper then new. so the debate is, do you trust the used unknown tank, or reseal it....
Now im debating if i should just go with a new tank...

Well I personally would not buy a used tank unless I knew the person I was buying it from or when I picked it up it was still running full of water.

Resealing an aquarium is not an easy task and really not as cheap as you think. You would have to buy all new rims, silicone @ $12 or so a tube. Vigoriously clean the glass and scrap all silicone off and so on...

To do it right you would need to do more than just the inner seams but inbetween the panes also. Old/New silicone will not bond properly to each other and actually make it weaker.

The question I would ask on the tank is this: Is it currently setup holding water? How much are they asking for it and what is the cost difference between new? How scratched is the glass? (drives me crazy)

whole setup is $850 and currently has water in it. going to look at it in person tomorrow. the current (second i think) owner has had it for two years and doesnt know the age of the tank was my big issue. the owner says its never leaked a drop for him. assuming when i see the tank it and the stand are level as stated ill only be worried about the age. (well, to some extent not knowing if the former owner had it level.

I would not worry about it too much if its holding water and running. What you all getting for $850?

I am guessing at that price you will need to invest in some more equipment and rock since that seems very cheap for a "complete" setup of a 180 gallon.....

I have a personal 180 gallon at my home and my skimmer was almost $600 new just by itself.... However worth every penny!!!
