Fishfoo's 40g Rimless (1 Viewer)

Starting to encrust. Even survived my accidental Alk overdose to 12dkh the other day! First time I’ve ever done that. Had doser on manual to boost up as usage increased and needed to adjust frequency. Timer went off while I was on a work call and silenced it and remembered 2 hrs later. Emergency 50% WC and doser off for 16hrs and right back to 8dkh. Lucky.

Great to hear everything’s still ok. Yeah my tank went through A LOT of ups and downs since the OP has been in it and survived it all so it’s very hardy imo. Which is rare for nicer acro’s however I’m not complaining :)

I’ll post charts of my Alk and PO4 over the past year+. I just took a look at it myself recently and it’s not too pretty.

So in my defense, I'm not the most diligent tester and only test when I think somethings off with the tank or I'm bored. I also believe for my alkalinity readings that the increases are more of a point in time spike rather than gradual increases, and that I just don't have the extra daily data points to prove it. Nonetheless, it's not great. This is why I'm so excited to hook up the GHL KH Director on my new tank (and hopefully the ION soon as well).

You can also see the constant battle I've had with PO4 bottoming out.

Throughout all of this things have still been doing fine and growing, it just hasn't been consistent growth.

Not much to report on really. Things are on cruise control for the most part and corals are growing. A lot of corals are starting to encroach on one another, which I was going to try and prevent by removing them and transferring them to the new tank before it happened. However, that's not the case and doesn't seem like it will be for a little while longer. Oh well..

I moved the Lunatus to the RSR to give it more swimming space as it was very cramped in there. I still needed some type of bio-load, so I moved the tiny Tomini tang I've had in quarantine for the past couple months into the 40gal. It still has some lateral line disease so I'm keeping it in there by itself so I can monitor it without risking other fish. I've tried quite the assortment of meds and supplements for this guy already so we'll see what happens.

Below are some progress pics of some corals. Really cool to see how much some of them have grown.

RRA Orange Passion - July 5th 2017: not even the size of my pinky nail

April 15th 2019: I've had this nub for over two years and it hasn't grown AT ALL due to how much I've moved it around and how tiny it was to begin with.

July 30th 2019: Since dosing Acropower and leaving it in one place, it FINALLY has taken off! I've seen some good growth in all of my coral since dosing acropower, but this was the most exciting one to see finally wake up.

SC Dynamite - July 5th 2017: 1.5 eye booger

May 12th 2019: 14+ eyes

Aqua SD Rainbow Phoenix - February 15th 2017: Another one I moved around a lot.

February 19th 2018: Finally left it alone

May 12th 2019: Definitely a slow grower but the color get better and better the more it grows.

July 30th 2019: Very hard to accurately capture the color of this one, but it's one of my favorites. Looks a lot more yellow in person.

WWC Heartbreaker - March 17th 2018

May 12th 2019: Another one that hadn't really done anything until I left it be and started dosing acropower.

Just a picture I thought was interesting..

Great photos and progress, Keenan.
The "phoenix" corals are notorious for not doing anything until they are left alone.

That dynamite chalice is very aptly named. Would love a piece someday! Glad to see both your tanks doing well

Thanks Jason. And it’s good to hear I’m not alone with the Phoenix.

Thanks! I actually just counted tonight and there are actually 30+ eyes on it now :) i haven’t decided when or if I’ll end up fragging it. I’ll probably enjoy it a bit more before putting it under the knife.

As some may have inferred based on the tank being for sale, it has officially been decommissioned. Most of the contents made the switch to the new tank, with a few not making the cut. It's bitter sweet, however I just don't see myself having the time or commitment to maintain two separate systems. Partly due to this guy below who's been a handful. I appreciate everyone who followed along with me through this build, and hope you continue to do the same with the RSR 525XL. Thanks :)

The tank has been reborn! Well actually it was spun back up shortly after decommissioning it, and is now an anemone tank. It's been up and running for a year now I think. I've let it do it's own thing with minimal maintenance and it's been cruising along. Finally took the time to give it a deep cleaning and feel it's ready for it's first mini photo shoot. But first, the livestock list:

2x Aptasia Eating Filefish
2x CB Percula Clowns
1x Convict Tang (~2inches)

For corals/nems:
Some Acanlord Rainbow anemones
Some unknown insane orange anemones I pickup up from a local reefer last year who purchased his original mother from Diver's Den ~5-6 years ago
Some purple gorgonian

I did have what I believed to be a CSB but it was tiny and withered away rather quickly when moved to this tank. Oh well. The tank gets a 10% water change whenever I perform one on the main display and I switch out the filter floss once a week if I remember. It's lit by an AI Hydra 26, and has an MP40 for flow. I still really need to add a cleanup crew in the tank, but other than that it remains on cruise control. That's about it I think :) Time for pics.

FTS (Tank was still a bit cloudy after WC) @RSnodgrass artwork in the background as well!
